Ok, so I finally got some time to myself to start building my plastic models that are still collecting dust. I have no problems assemlbing horrors, trygons and the likes without too much forethought (and with some converting on the side). However, tucked away, I still ahve the Emperor's Fist Tank company left. It's been sitting there for roughly 4 years now and I'm still afraid to open it. I've assembled Russes before, but the sheer amount is making me afraid to go near it. Has something like this happened to any of you? I think I just got overwhelmed with the sheer amount of bitz and conversion potential that my mind just shuts off whenever I look at it.

I definitely get that more with vehicles than with infantry. It's one of the reasons I play with infantry rather than with vehicles.
In general, though, I only buy new stuff when I run out of old stuff, so I don't have that same magnitude problem when staring at boxes of unassembled stuff.

The Tank company was a gift from my family for my birthday. It coincided with the release of Apocalypse. Back then I wanted a Tank Company list for apoc, but now it's not feasable due to non-troop choices not being able to cap objectives.

I have a baneblade still sitting in the box. I've had it for a few months now. I also have a Rhino, LRBT, Sentinel, and half assembled land raider all waiting to be put together.
You could say I've encountered the shellshock. It's not the joy and fun it used to be, and I occasionally need time to detox from cyanoacrylate overdose.

It took me a month before I was even able to touch my first baneblade. I know the feeling.

I'm quite the opposite, I love putting vehicles together, it's the troops which get me down. I've got a Baneblade built awaiting paint, currently painting and assembling three basilisks, two chimeras, two hellhounds and a manticore. Two Leman Russ, two Hydras, two Medusas and a Colossus are still in their packaging.
The guardsmen can wait, and the HWSs can wait even longer lol

I have no problem assembling hordes of models, especially tiny ones. It's mainly the massive amount of tanks all at once that's overwhelming.

Hmm...
I think i would find that fun (as fun as it can be)
You get to write funny things on the tank afterwards.
They are relatively simple to put together.
And at the end you get a tank!
Bonus points.
Getting a tank at the end of anything is always a good thing.

The best motivation I've seen for myself and others is the excitement of bringing a new army to old players (EDIT: I mean guys you've played with for a while). It's easier with non MEQ armies, but if this is your firs SM army you should just be ready to bring the pain and the motivation to build should come to you.

I've gotta do 15 more bikes (5 down) for a list. It's not shell shocking, but it is tedious. I've built more than any man's fair share of Rhinos, Razorback, and Drop Pods, however. The worst though, was the Tunderhawk. The only model I've ever given up on. It didn't help how horrible the cast was, though.

Most of my shellshock extends from the fact that I feel the unnerving need to convert anything larger than a gaunt. If it's generic, it's not going in my army until it's got some character. Unfortunately I need ALOT of bitz that I dont have, and I'm not exactly willing to divy up the money for it, not to mention it's going to be one hell of a long project.

I've had a Land Raider and Drop Pod unassembled in the den for over two years. Don't worry about it. I've been having a similar problem with all the Rhino chassis for my Iron Warriors army. It just gets repetitive.

I fear no GW tank kit, After spending a lot of time in my 10 year break from the hobby making model tank and plan kits by comparison GW stuff is a lot easier to put together with far less fiddly little parts due to the "heroic" scale that they use.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all. |

I don't do much conversion, but I stare at the codex, build diagrams, and at pictures of the model I'm trying to build for about an hour or two (not all at once) until I'm suitably satisfied that I know how I'm going to magnetize every last facet of the vehicle in question. Takes a bit of a while, especially compared with the two guardsmen I can crank out in an hour and a half's time, start to painted.

Painting all these infantry is painfully slow, especially after I finished doing the same with Orks. Ah well, my fault for liking infantry-based, non-MEQ armies.
I'm using Steel Legion as carapace vets and cadia as standard infantry.

The thing is, though, while painting 100 infantry is slow, it doesn't take all that long to paint any one infantryman.
At least with infantry it's like "hey, I got something done today. One more dude that can now hit the table". Vehicles take longer to assemble, convert, and paint. The end result is me looking at my vehicles and being like "I've been working on this stupid tank for 2 months now, how come it's not done yet?"
The latter is more demoralizing to me than the former.

I don't have a problem with assembly. Before warhammer I did scale aircraft. GW tanks are nothing compared to a 1/48 scale BF109 made by Hasagawa. But I digress...
My biggest problem with tanks is the painting. It takes forever to paint them, and since their are so many more details than infantry, the detailing takes longer too.

I love my guard but I am so sick and tired of painting troops that is just kills me. On the other hand, I love painting tanks, so I guess I am exactly what GW is looking for!
That being said, I always get to the end of the paintjob and end up doing a half arsed job on the soldier sticking out of the turret! Now I've learned to do them first, otherwise, they end up looking like a cheap street walker!
