My Dad and brother are starting to get Space Wolves after seeing how much fun I'm having with IG. So, I'd like a few questions: What would be good advice for these guys in a region that mostly plays IG, and vice versa?

Well SW can work pretty well against IG...but IG can still tromp them. I personally have Ig and SW and I think my 1500 lists are evenly so matched it would come down to dice.

SW smacking IG:
Long fangs
Thunderwolf Calvary
Wolf Lords of any mode
Wolf Scouts
HF/MM Land speeders
Rune Priests

IG smacking SW:
Blob squads!!
Vendettas(outflank for at least one volley of 3 TLLC is a dead vehicle)
DS Stormies w/ Plasmaguns
Anything in the IG HS slot...
Ogryn can be much better than they look on paper
Dont recommend Chimera spam vs SW

Grey Knights -2500
D'haran First File - 2500
D'haran Great Company - 1500

Missle spam is a good one for pretty much any army.
Against guardsmen they'll need to close the gap quickly and get into CC good and proper.

Zonder's list is right on. Add Grey Hunters, (usually the superior of their two troops choices) and maybe one of the excellent special characters, and you're good to go.

You might want to pick of a Leman Russ Executioner, though. Trust me, they make dealing with SW's easy.

Long fangs + missile launchers + rhinos/razorbacks = win

That's the only equation your family needs to know.
