I was talking to someone the other day and hes a big big fan of scouts. Infact hes working on a personal codex to allow him to field a whole scout army, with a special "scout" HQ, I have to admit, so far its sounding really fun and even weirder, it sounds balanced and not yea ok cheesy.


ANYWAYS, he was talking about how scout bikers, have a shotgun as well as the TL bolters on the bike. I must be missing/forgetting something but why would they include the shotguns on a bike? Sure the shotgun is assault2 but its 12 inches right? So at 12 inches the TL bolters shoot twice as well, and have an AP. So please, help me remember why they did this?

Bolters are rapid fire. You can't shoot them and assault. Shotguns are assault weapons. I'm assuming those rules carry over to bikes.

Scout bikers have shotguns to torment the players of scout bikers. The most cruel part of forcing scout bikers to always have shotguns is the plastic sprue comes with combat blades that scout bikers are absolutely not allowed to have. Then to really rub it in you actually get 2 shotguns per scout bike purchased. The only bright side is IG players looking to buy shotguns for their vets will be wanting leftover bits from your scout bikers.

All of that being said even with their shotguns being totally obsolete next to their TL bolters scout bikers are a great unit that are rarely used.

Bikes are relentless, that doesn't apply. There is no advantage to firing the shotguns instead of the bike's weapons.

They are a solid unit that should be used more.

They are so you can convince players who aren't very knowledgeable about the rules that your bikers can move 12", rapid fire their twin linked bolters, then fire their shot guns, and then assault.



I'm kidding of course, the shotguns are useless unless you intentionally want to kill fewer members of a squad, but I can't see that happening too often, if ever.

Maybe just the fluff that scouts whether on bikes or not are still being inducted so have lower accuracy and shotguns are easier to shoot? Just a thought and i believe the only reason they have them is for fluff purposes.

Oh yeah, and their bolt pistols are also non-functional. They can't have an additional close combat weapon for the extra attack and its shooting is irrelevent for the same reason as the shotgun's.

So basically all of the weapon options that come with the scout bikes are either outclassed or not allowed? Was anyone paying attention when they made this kit?

I hate that guy. And his stupid plasma pistol with a sight on it. And his silly leather strip loincloth. And his Iron halo. AN dhis head, the rebreather looks stupid.

Shotguns are for looking cool and nothing else.

I'm glad they have the sprue set up this way. I like to use the one handed shotgun for when I've got a Scout Sergeant with a power fist in a Land Speeder Storm. The scout box doesn't come with any one handed shotguns, so the one from the biker sprue is my only option.

So basically its just for looks then? Yea, I knew bikes were relentless thats why the confusion was there. Weird. Thanks for the answers that were somewhat obvious, so basically, they are spare parts

Shotguns exsist so you face all the horrors of the galaxy... with your 12. Gauge.

The top reason why they have shotguns is they would be too good with a combat blade. If they could have combat blades all kinds of 30 scout bike lists would be popular....

I've personally never seen them used?

"Invariably they are loaded with manstopper shells..."

Manstopper?

Sounds like a buttplug to me.

Well if memory serves me correct once upon a time shot guns could fire S3 small blast as scatter shot or S4 slugs which were called manstopper shells.

Of course back then blight grenades were like miniature rad grenades with unlimited ammo that plague marines could just coat a battlefield with....
