Hey Dakka, so I've been a long time 40k player, but recently decided to delve into fantasy. I've always liked the look of the High Elves and flipping through their book I was captivated by the fluff and look of the White Lions. However, I was disappointed by the rest of the army because there was a real lack of unity among the units look wise. This would not do. So...I decided to do a White Lion themed army, and no I don't just mean elves riding lions (though that will of course happen in good time). I mean everything is going to look like it is from Chrace:

Obviously I still need to base him. I'm thinking grey gravel with snow patches to help make the lighter colors pop more.

Thoughts, questions, comments? He was painted in a few hours with the idea that I'd have to paint 40+ more of them, so definitely not a competition piece.

I'd recommend against light basing scheme - the base should frame the mini, not blend into it. Dark, city style rubble would be more appropriate.

The figure itself definitely gets the point across. Is it going to be easy enough to do for all the spearmen?

Should be pretty simple so long as I have the parts. I just picked up two boxes of spearmen super cheap, and I'll be ordering lots of White Lion parts, so I'm not concerned. The hardest part will be doing the shield icon, which I'm just planning on green stuff casting, so even that won't be difficult.

As for the washed out effect, he's actually a bit more vibrant in person. The photo is a bit washed out itself. I'm just not sure how well city rubble fits into fantasy. 40k, sure, but fantasy feels more rural.

I think a dark base would look nice, like a dark grey sand/pebble effect to represent shale.

As for the figure itself, it looks great, but I don't envy you replicating this looks across your entire rank and file!

I think it looks great. My only comment is that a somewhat darker woodtone on the spear and inside of the shield would break up the overall light colors of the mini. And definitely use some darker colors for the basing with just a tiny bit of snow if you absoultely must have it. Personally I think rich, green grass and some exposed brown soil would look better than snow.

But it's your army, not mine, do what you like!

CHAOS! PANIC! DISORDER!
My job here is done.
