I am having trouble getting a consensus as to which point list is the more common, 1750 or 1850. I thought 1750 was the official G.W. tournament game, but I see tons of people playing 1850 lists and claim their practicing for tournaments?

I....have never heard of 1850 point lists. although I dont attend tournaments that often.

GW seems to go with incriments of 250, starting at 500.

There is a regional tournament in my area in about a month that is 1850...

I don't know, I'm the opposite. I have not seen many 1750 tournaments in a while (basically since 5th edition was released), most are now 1850 or 2000.

9th Age (KoE, Warriors of the Dark Gods-Lust, Sylvan Elves), 40K (Dawn Bringers SM, Night Lords Legion, Tau), AOS (Bretonnia, Ironjawz, fyreslayers) Malifaux (Ressers, McCabe).

Anyone in CO want to teach me historicals?

I've seen 1750 lists on here, but my league at my FLGS runs 1850 lists. Only tourney I went to was 'Ard Boyz last year, and IIRC that was 2500.

Is there much of a difference between 1750 and 1850? 100 points doesnt seem like too much in that range.

the 'Ard Boyz standard is 2500.

1850 seems to be the standard in Europe(Wierd???) although i have played a few 1850 games at a not so local tournament.

Yeah I always thought games in increments of 250 pts above 500 were the only real way to play. I mean who plays 1900? or 1450? my FLGS hosts 1750 tourneys.

But then my friend's FLGS (a bit ways away from me) started to host tourneys at 1850. It's not too far away, I went to one. And now it's been 1850 for the past handful of months. So 1850 has kind of grown on me. ...But I still think it's stupid. 1750 is much more graceful looking. 250 pt increments ftw.

1500 is probably the most common size globally. GW's UK Grand Tournaments were 1500 forever.

1750 is also a common size.

1850 is also a common size.

2000 is a slightly less common size.

2500 is the size GW's 'Ard Boyz event uses, in part because it's a promotion put on by the Trade Sales dept and they want you to buy lots of stuff. Same reason it doesn't require painting.

For a long time, at least in Europe, 1850 was a standard tournament size. Then with the advent of 4th Edition, many of those got trimmed down to 1750. concurrently, the infamous 'Ard Boyz tournaments started up at 2500.

Incidentally, GW has claimed in the past that 40K is the most balanced at 1500 points, as that's the size they use for their play tests (yes, they claim to have some) most frequently.

Like many others, I tend to plan my army lists in 500pt increments (500, 100, 1500 then 2000) but 1750, 2250 & 750 seem to be gaining more traction. If you do the 250point increments, I'd recommend going to 2000 and then shaving 150 off if you ever feel like playing 1850.

you can't just playtest at one game size.

they need to test at a bunch of sizes. 1k, 1500, 2k, 2500. just to see the issues of scale that come into play.

Thanks for the replies, the 1500 pt. point (no pun intended) is really interesting. I'm going to mention that to my game buddies.

I recall reading that 1500pts. was the "standard" game, even though it's designed to scale up or down easily. The 250pt. increments also makes more sense to me, but I've been seeing far more 1850pt. lists posted/tournies advertised than 1750. Did every player at every tournament suddenly decide he needed that one more tank and it stuck? It's not like there's some mathematical formula that would be able to derive 1850 as the most balanced/timely/awesome point limit.
