Alright here's the deal, I play Ultramarines (yes, i know, everyone hates them. LOL). Anyway my buddy plays Chaos space marines. We have both come up with our relatively best army list at the 1500 point range. Instead of just playing these lists against each other until our eyeballs bleed, just to see whose list is better, I figured that we would settle this argument the most democratic way possible and put our lists to a vote here in the Dakka Dakka voting battlefield. Please vote for which list you think would win and tell us why you think that army would triumph. Please try to keep the flaming of the smurfs to a minimum, and post the best constructive criticism that you can muster. Thank you and don't forget to vote.

P.S. I shouldn't have to say this, but please don't just vote for your favorite (or unfavorite) army, please take the time to read over the lists and give us your expert opinions, we are both fairly new to this hobby and would appreciate some feedback from you seasoned vets out there, so we might become better players. Thanks again

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

2010-> IG losses:5, draws: 1, wins: a really lot of wins
2011 IG losses: 2, draws: 1 wins: 32
2012 losses: 8, draws: 0 wins: 15

I'd say ultramarines, just because his daemon prince should die to your shooting, and your termies>his termies (THSS are one of the best units in the game, you might want to swap that one LC out for another THSS, sure you lose an attack, but you gain FAR greater survivability and offensive power)

As for the dev squad, its generally a bad idea to mix heavy weapons meant for different roles, while the ML is meant for tank hunting, the HB wants to be shooting infantry, so one or the other will always be wasted.

victoria, Australia. the place to be (Y)

it really all depends on what you did with the LR/termy unit, they're the only real squad going to make a big difference to favor the ultramarines. The rest of the ultras would get wooped by the chaos army

Necron Tomb somewhere in Scandinavia.

Depends how you use your units on table top and strategies. Can't say. I think Ultamarines cause Daemon prince dies 1st or 2nd turn and rhinos will fall also very soon.

I don't know from the armies who's better because i've never read the chaos codex, but every time i've played against chaos with space marines, I've lost badly, so I imagin that chaos are good against space marines.

Vanilla space marines should roll over C:SM, what have you been using and facing?

You mean CSM right? Not Codex: Space Marines. I would vote on the Smurfs. Smurfs aren't completely focused, but possess a strong deathstar that the CSM will have a hard time countering. The space marines hit harder at range, and should be able to take care of the couple of advancing chaos elements.

Thanks for all the votes and all of the replies, IMHO I don't understand why Chaos doesn't do better than they usually do at the tourney level. They have so many squad stat upgrades that loyalist marines can't have, apparently adding a mark of one of the four chaos gods increases your stats in different areas. Plague marines are T5 AND have FNP. Just imagine if any ultramarine squad were privy to those kind of perks. Now granted that my vehicles are a little cheaper(points wise), but a MC with WS8 S6 T6 W4 A5 with a 4+ inv. for 100 points!!! Marneus Calgar is 250 points and doesn't even come close to those stats. Makes me wonder why the Chaos players are always whining about their codex not being cheesy enough to compete with the current dexs, how much more cheesy can you get?

Sorry for the rant there, I've been bombarded with smart comments for awile just because I play the Ultramarines. Anyway keep the votes coming and try to post some list advise for either list if you can, Thanks.
