Poll
Could I attempt to regroup in this situation?
Yes, but only if the ICs started with the unit.
Yes, regardless of when the ICs joined.
No, you only count the base unit, and not any ICs.

I've tried searching for this question, but had no luck so I apologize if it's been brought up before. Let's say that I start the game with 2 ICs attached to a 6 model unit (for a total of 8 models). Over the course of the game, 4 of the normal guys die, and I eventually fail a morale check. It seems to me that I should count as being at 50% strength in this situation, but I'm not sure if I am correct here.

Would I be allowed to attempt to regroup in the next turn as I have 4 of 8 models left in the unit?
or
Would I not be allowed, as the base unit only has 2 of 6 models left in the unit?

And lastly, would the answer here be any different if the ICs didn't start the game with the unit, but instead joined mid-game? Thank you for any help!

It doesn't matter if they start the game with the unit or not, unless they actually form a single unit (as in the case of retinues, in which situation they're not actually ICs anymore anyway...) rather than just being joined to it.

The rulebook FAQ clarifies that IC's joined to a unit do not count towards the unit strength for morale tests.

So that would mean that they don't count in the unit percentage at all(25% in a shooting phase) and still be subject to sweeping advances and might be forced to run off the board with no hope of regrouping in a case like that,or would they be able to leave the unit in the next movement phase?

Glad i play marines then, atsknf is great.
Being able to regroup automatically even under 50% mean that unless on the edge of the board i do not risk losing those expensive IC from a bad round of assault or shooting.
I'm just starting with this game and even if vanilla marines does not seem that great at first i keep finding good points for them.

Keep in mind that enemies within 6" still keep you running. Escorting off board FTW
