I'm surprised no one has posted this yet. The last couple Conquest NW Seattle tournaments have been pretty good. A little rough around the edges but still good. Hopefully this year they'll bring back the giant count down clock projector!

Gabriel Vega is running this event. After everything that happened last year with the Conquest events (including the Seattle one and the local club) I'd personally avoid this like the plague. He's the master of non-payment, non-refunding (not sure if some of the guys ever did get their money back), and never appearing prize support.
Good Luck to anyone attending.

Yeah I went last year and will not be going back. Nothing to do with how doc TO'd either -- he did a fine job under the circumstances and he is a big reason why it wasn't utter fail (well he and a host of folks in that community who busted ass to get terrain together in a week or so).
The problem is ConQuest is its not ran 'by gamers for gamer's like most cons and events. Its a for profit business that takes advantage of volunteers and the community. Seattle has not had a GW run GT in years, the community wanted something like that and was willing to do whatever they could to make that happen. Vega took advantage of that imo.
If you are in the PacNW I'd look instead at GameCon, TSHFT or GottaCon before giving any funds to ConQuest.

Very True,
I have NOTHING to do with the ass busting that went on 2 weeks before the tournament to get terrain and tables ready. Those folks are the real reason that tournament worked at all.
Most of my time was spent, 800 miles away, getting paper work together, scoring spread sheets and trying to understand the paint scoring that was already in place. While the end result of the tournament was in question because of certian folks, and the fact we didn't have chairs to sit on all went as well as it could.
I do understand now, after the fact, what my predicecors delt with before I was asked to come on board as I've now faced the same problems with the owners of ConQuest.
I do hope that the folks that do go have fun.
Enjoy Y'all

There have been a ton of issues with the Conquest series of events. I've been to Conquest events with bad paint scores, putting out a different army for paint judes than the one played, cheating on the top table, an overpoints list allowed to win Best Overall, and I didn't even go to the shortened one day Conquest event in LA.
Of course, without a TO I wonder how there will be a tournament.
Also, the Conquest staff has been sending out e-mails saying they need hotel bookings, I'm starting to doubt if there will even be a Conquest event.
I made the mistake of prepaying for a ticket and I don't think I'll be going this year. I might go to see if they have my second Best Overall plaque that should have been sent to me in October because of my Best Overall performance in the event in August. I doubt it.
If you want to play at a tournament in Seattle I'd save your money & instead go to tshft March 5th & 6th.

Zen has stated elsewhere that TSHFT is happening March 5th/6th and that website updates were forthcoming (that was pre-holidays though). That is the only details available at this time, which is a bit troublesome for those of us who need to travel 5+ hours to attend.

The first year I went it was a lot of fun and I met and played some nice folks. Last year, Mondo took it over and it was a total crapfest. The only reason I am going this year is to visit friends and family in the area and a morbid curiosity of how aweful it can be.

Honestly I think the best indy GT out there was the one the Northwest Gamming Geeks put on for 2 years running. I believe it was Battle for Seattle. Otherwise most of the tournies in the NW are pretty bad.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. Mondo was the main organizer the first year also. He just happens to always rely on some other folks -- usually volunteers or people he promises things to and then renegs on said promises.

His hands were not as heavy in the GT two years ago as they were last year. And I know exactly who he is, because he tried to get us to work for him. You know that feeling after taking a dump that no amount of wiping will make you feel pure again and only a shower with a deep scrub of the under carriage will do? Thats how I felt after talking to this guy every time.
At the very least, the calibre of player was still fun last year. Automatically Appended Next Post: ps- Quake City Rumble is the best Indy Gt of any kind, hands down.

I spoke to chase Limbo the other day and I know he is going to attempt to win for a third time in a row. OO and personally I say astronomicon was the best 40k GT, as those guys put on an amazing show.

Yeah I highly recommend astronomicon in vancouver BC also. Not sure when it will be in 2011 (it changes from year to year) but Mike and Christian put on one hell of an event. Its different for sure though then the direction events are taking of late, but that's not a bad thing at all.

Call me pathetically positive...
I've never played in a tournament, but I did go down to NWCq last year to watch the 40k tourny. Everything that's been said is true. Any of the experienced players I knew or spoke with had a number of complaints. It did sound like they had played in much better tournaments. And Doc did do an awesome job holding things together (wasn't it a last minute thing that you were even there!?!?).
Risking a ton of heckling from you guys, I'm going to try and point out the positives (after all, I pre-registered for this years tournament and I'm hoping at least a few people show up!).
What sold me most on going were the people I met playing in the tournament. The first time players were stoked about just being at a large event, and the experienced players were very firendly and helpful to the inexperienced. I'd have to say if you are an inexperienced tournament player or you're experienced and are just looking to stay practiced and share knowledge of the game, this is a pretty okay place to play (maybe a little too spendy, but hey, once a year). People from the Northwest are great, lax, and friendly. Whether the structure of the tournament was lame, the social environment was great. After all, either way it's two straight days of rolling dice and seeing cool arimies, right?
... Alright, now go ahead and have at me

Hey, I'm going to be there with a buddy of mine. Look for a snow-based, Tau-Aligned traitor guard army and a bunch of very yellow Imperial Fist marines - that will be us!

That's a great post and a great attitude to take.
Often times we get caught up in so much of the competition of it all that we forget the real reason that we started in this hobby in the first place.

Does anyone know who to contact for army list questions? The website lists Ken Cassady as the Miniatures Event Programming Coordinator. Do the guys running the event have a forum or email? The closest email seems to be conquestionnw@avalongamecon.com
The last two Conquests offered a 30 minute Q&A on Friday night. But I'd rather get some input before printing my lists.
