Now I've got my daemon army to 3k, and it's a new year, I've been looking to start new armies in 40k and Fantasy. (I went with ogres for fantasy, for those interestest)

Now, to the 40k decision. I've narrowed it down to either Dark Eldar or CSM, and just can't make a desicion.

I mean, I love the new DE models, and their fluff is great, but I think they might be a bit...fragile for my taste. CSM on the other hand are nice and solid, and I love Chaos. The only problem is that I hear their codex is shockingly bad, and with no chance of an update any time soon.

Anyone want to try and sway me to either side?

DE. Between newer, more "fun" choices and a whole host of conversion possibilities, DE is the better choice. While CSM does have just as many conversion opportunities, they're largely spiky marines. Wait till they eventually get updated, since if you want competitive, you should go SW, and go for any other if you want fluff or uniqueness.

Yeah, I don't care about competitiveness much, but I've heard the CSM book is just flat-out broken.

Plus, I wouldn't go for SW, I don't like playing Imperium at all

Anyway, would it be possible to make a fully plastic DE army? I've been thinking, really the only thing I'd need to think about is an Archon.

DE, I say this as a player of both armies. The CSM codex is just too weak in my honest opinion, even when I'm winning with the army it doesn't really feel like it under the current rules. However while "squishy" the DE have an extremely well balanced codex internally.

You can make an Archon from the normal DE Warrior's box, kinda like SM Tactical > SM Commander sort of thing.

Yeah, but as far as I've seen, the Warriors' poses are all fairly similar, so I'm thinking he might just kinda blend in with the rest of them. Maybe just give him a fancy base, or something.

The Metal Archon just has a more ornate helm and cape. A little GS here and there should be able to make him stand out. Plus, you can always mix parts in from the Wych set (and from the Hellions and Reavers. They're all cross compatable).

Ah, right, I'll try that then.

Also, the GW Warriors model. How do they get the colours so...sharp? Like, around the edges of the armour plating, it's all uniform thickness, and stands out.

I'm guessing a really fine brush and a steady hand. They probably use a brush so thin, that's the thickest line it can make.

Anyway, any basic tips for DE? Do's and don'ts?

For example, the best weapons for a warrior squad, or Archon loadouts.
