If a T4 3 wounds model suffers instant death from a powerfist, does that count 3 wounds toward combat resolution or just 1?

It is just one unsaved wound that happened to kill outright. So it would just count as a single wound.

Incorrect. You get all the remaining wounds that the model had, as the model has suffered those wounds.

The rule for ID simple says the model is killed outright and removed as a casualty. It never says it inflicts more than a single wound.

Pg. 39 of the BGB: "the wounds actually suffered by enemy models (including all of the Wounds lost by models that have suffered instant death)"

You count them. It would be three wounds.

Take a look at the "Determine Assault Results section," p. 39. You are incorrect.

It would seem you are both correct, I withdraw my stance and handily switch sides.

Yup, it counts all three wounds as pointed out. It's another kick to the junk of Tyranid Warriors, making them even more dangerous to the 'nid player to use because it dramatically increases the No Retreat wounds. If things go REALLY bad this will even further snowball into a multiple assault situation causing a whole lot of wailing, gnashing of teeth and dead Tyranids.

I just avoid them entirely outside of specialist lists.
