righty, since i got back into 40k those of my mates that did 40k with me years ago are having a 40k game on the weekend. its apocalypse, 3v3, with 6k per side, so 2k points for me. on my side one of my mates is pre-heresy lunar wolves which are shooty. If an old friend of mine who i havnt seen in a long time, and who owns space wolves, can't make it, then it will be another friends Ultramarine army, which is quite shooty aswell. we are up against a CSM army, an Ork/necron army, and... and... i forgot the other army, it might be another CSM. the battlefield is sparse but with different obstacles from the likes of aegis defences to imperial sector buildings.
so anyways i have devised a 2k list from what i own (i have around 3.5k points overall), and i hope i could get some help (and criticism) with changing the list(i have barely played any 40k so i never really look out for a good army list).
with the most recent DA FAQ saying the whole 'opponents discussion on SM gear', instead of compiling list upon list, the only request i made was for AM to get 1 flamer for 5 points, which nobody really cared about.
so here we go:

tactics:
Deploy Dev squad on flank in cover, bolter armed CS deployed near them with predator nearby aswell. this will be my firebase.
The vet squad will be nearby, incase enemy deepstrike to neutralise my heavy support.
Tac squads will advance, hugging as much cover as possible to get in the best position for shooting.
meltagun armed Tac squad held in reserve with rhino, so once deployed will get quicker to location of need
Scouts will be infiltrated (if that rule is still in 5th ed) in cover a tiny bit foward from deployment zone
Ravenwing att sqn to be used as harassment on the flanks, perhaps in combat squads. not many expected to survive...
assault squad held in reserve with chaplain. will deepstrike if needed for some cc killy killy.

Ooof. Bad set up.
1. Since Devs are shooty units, dump all of the 'assault' or short range items:
Plasma Pistol, PFist & MeltaBomb.
2. Proxy 3 of the heavy weapons as either LasCans or MMs or MLs, but not a mixed bag like this. All the shooting has to go at one target and in Apoc, you'll want a lot of the same, focused dice on the target, whether infantry or tanks. It should just be MLs, really, not LasCans as the MLs have the templates to get rid of troops too, and the ML template is far better than it was in 4th edition. *If* your buddies are going to field SuperHeavies and other Apoc fun, then MultiMeltas would be better to crack those monsters.

2a.)= Done :4 missile launchers now
2b) my IG friend has a baneblade, other than that the rest is just plain armies. my ally has a LR redeemer and the opposite chaos army has a CLR
now that i have 70 points to spare, any suggestions on what to fill up, or any more observational changes?
should i drop the additional 5 for the dev squad?

The scouts, Vets, and the tacticals all (almost) have plasmaguns. Rapid Fire will prevent assaulting after you shoot. I've largely gone with meltaguns every time because 5th ed is so much more about tanks, especially with the cool rule that you can shoot a tank with a melta (or whatever) and still be able to assault the passengers should they bail out. Since this will be an Apoc, likely with a lot of tanks, you'll want to use those meltabombs, especially on the BaneBlade, so I'd try to switch the PGs for MGs.

I'd skip the EA, as it has no need to go anywhere, should it get Stunned. EA is best for rhinos and LRs with passengers.
Generally, I don't like the HK missiles, being a one shot thingy, but if you're 'padding up' to fill in for the Apoc points, then, okay.

thanks, i never liked the idea of HK either, but yeah for filling in points they may help if you need a one shot wonder against a tank.
SW wise, i understand that in today's battle everyone goes out on Meltaguns, but for me i plan on keeping the basic tacticals AWAY from close up fighting. But i'll still try it out, Meltas are cheaper than plasmas anyway

yeah i had to miss out the Attack bike in the original list because there wasn't enough points, but i'm sure to include it back into the force. [EDIT[ i do not own another Pred
thanks guys! [edit] miscaculated the ravenwing att sqn, must have done wrong in the calculation. so even though ive just saved points, iv'e ended up 75 points overpriced...
on a side note, gonna be pretty awkward with my mates when they are all WYSIWYG, and i'm there going "yeah btw all these dudes with plasma guns have meltas instead, this att bike has a MM instead etc etc

just a quick update to let you guys know what is now happening in the game next weekend, which may make the army need some changes. included is an intel report on the enemy strength from a disclosed source:

on my side, we have now still me with my DA, the luna wolves, Ultramarines, and an IG force. all these forces are 2k
i'm lending my own Leman Russ to the IG force, who my friend might use in an armoured column which comprises of 3 Leman Russes and 1 LR executioner. i might now deploy my rhino behind the column along with my friends 2 chimeras to be as a dismount force once the armoured force reach the enemy.
me and my friend were thinking of making the battle a relieve type of battle. the plan was to stick a big building in the middle (probabely the imperial buildings put together). and stick infiltrated scouts (my sniper scouts and luna wolf scouts), along with 2 units of storm troopers. these will then have to hold out until the relief force reach them. it will probabely be a 5 turn game, with the objective of whoever holds the central building.
