I've been playing guard for about two years now and in all honesty, I'm pretty god damn tired of shooting things. I've shot things with lascannons, plasma cannons and even battle cannons; and let me tell you guys I need a break. I've been thinking I'd like to go the other way with this deal, maybe get myself a 3+ save and beat some gak with close combat weapons; the whole thing is I don't know the short stick from the long one about beating gak up in melee and which armies do it well. A close friend has advised me towards chaos space marines telling me they can kick all types of ass, but Looking through the codex I'm not sold yet. I was thinking and a typing maybe you guys would be the people to talk to, I'll take any advise on the melee turn you guys and gals can give and also any idea on which armies and unists rock socks in close combat. Though I'd rather not play blood angels or dark eldar because one of my good close friends has just started those armies.

Get space wolves. They're an amazing CC oriented army. Plus the entire army has counter charge. Hope that helps. And welcome to dakka, since I see you only have a few posts in

wolf-star lists are indeed melee goodness but if you are wanting to stick to marines, then i'd say blood angels are the way to go. 3+ armor and 4+ FnP, with a 250pt melee nightmare in mephiston is just too good to pass up. baal preds are about the only armor you'll want to use and with the dropships coming...well, you might not need the preds then.

SW are a short ranged army not a CC army. If you want pure CC go Black Templars or BA.

I've personally been thinking a slaanesh list based around one group of 5 termies, 2 groups of melee chosen and than bikes to flank and melta vehicles. Is this a crappy list or is it workable.

I would wait until grey knights come out and then get them. I imagine they would be good in combat and also cheap on the wallet as you won't need many models. I'm a guard player and i'm thinking of picking some up as they should be the antithesis of my current force.

If you're really tired of shooting, go with Orks!

You can still shoot with them, but you'll learn to embrace the joys of BS2 - when you hit something, it's an accomplishment.

Then there's the melee goodness of Choppas, Power Klaws, Big Choppas, Burnas, Buzz Saws and Deff Rollas.
