A lot of you probably have friends on dakka who are also in your gaming group. This is great until you want to put a list or strategy up for critiquing and discussing because then your opponent can find your list/strategy and change their list accordingly. I had this idea for a feature that would be fantastic to have. What if you could choose certain people to exclude from a topic (not including mods so as to keep your strategy a secret. True it would probably be difficult, but it'd be pretty awesome. People's thoughts/support?

Probably work

It sounds like you want to solve a social problem through technological means. You should strive to help discourage list tailoring and other such unsportsman-like behavior though more direct means. We used to have a guy who would heavily list tailor, and then I started throwing him curve-balls; an all foot IG list, all of a sudden dusting off my Daemonhunters and busting those out on him from nowhere, and so on.

A good start for yourself would be to post two lists diametrically opposed in what their 'hard counter' would be, pick one and tweak it based upon it's reception, and then play that.

Also, the problem with relying on "secret tactics" is that you'll get the drop on your opponent that one game, but it doesn't make you a better player because he'll be prepared for it next time.

But that's just my opinion.

What about multi-people PMing? Would that work?

I never have this problem but that's just because I always hesitate to put my lists up. It came to mind when some people I know where having this problem. That's an interesting idea though about the "hard counter" and a little sneaky by itself .

As far as the secret tactics, I rarely if ever, use the same list unless it is exceptional.

Seems a little impractical, unless you were able to get people to join a PM-ing group devoted to helping each other secretly developing their lists and tactics.

It's not really the open, public discussion that we want to encourage so will not be getting implemented. There are other services out there (email, facebook groups, etc) that fit the purpose better anyway.

Check out our new, fully plastic tabletop wargame - Maelstrom's Edge, made by Dakka!
