Subject: WYSIWYG question regarding Logan Grimnar

Logan can use his Axe two ways, as a Frost Blade and as a Powerfist. Therefore, is it allowable in WYSIWYG land, to model my own Logan with an axe in one hand and a Powerfist in the other (even though strictly speaking, he does not have a powerfist)?

As long as your opponent can clearly recognize him as Logan, it should be fine. If you're making your own model instead of using the official one in a tournament, though, you should check with the organizer.

Do these two sentences go together? By that I mean, check with the organizer in order for them to verify that my Logan clearly is recognizable as Logan? Or, are you suggesting I check with the organizer on the specific WYSIWYG question I asked, even if my model obviously looks like Logan?

In general, as long as your opponent is clear you should be golden.
But whenever you're entering a tournament and planning to substitute a personal conversion in place of an official model, it's always a good practice to check with the organizer.

I'm relatively new to this game, never been to a tournament. I'd sincerely hope the only way they'd be unhappy with a person's model is if it didn't really look like the character much at all. If a tourney forced people to use official models that would be extremely dumb. Especially when the official Logan model was made by someone with a poor understanding of anatomy. Seriously, look at the guy, his arm sockets appear to be above his head, so if he took off his armor, his head would be residing somewhere in his upper torso.

Base on my experience in more tournaments than I can honestly remember anymore, you are almost certainly correct. That being said, I am not every tournament organizer in the world, so I can't speak for all of them.

Maybe so, unless the proposed conversions were indeed bad and not clearly recognizable.

They could also be unhappy if your change introduces some advantage you would not otherwise have; for example converting a monstrous creature so it is smaller than the usual model could confer a large advantage in terms of claiming cover saves.
However for most games, including tournaments, the "rule of cool" is often King: Mkae your conversion look awesome and most people wont be able to stop going "oooh, aahhh" to think about whether its a "fair" conversion or not!

Nos is dead-on.
If your conversion notably alters the size or shape of the model in a way that gains you a game-affecting advantage (usually this happens if the model is smaller and easier to hide), then that's another reason it might be disallowed.
That said, most of the time people LOVE unique conversions and are very welcoming of them, including in tournaments.

The other problem with a converted figure is if you make a minor change to model type that is otherwise common in your army. In other words, Logan is the regular model with the sky blue axe instead of the guy there with the light teal blue axe. Or an ork warboss who has only a tiny difference in look from the dozen nobs on the table. Etc etc.
Make him stand out, and people will tend to go with the coolness factor, as has been said above.

Why does my eldar army run three fire prisms? Because the rules wont let me use four in (regular 40k). |

This would make a great Painting and modeling thread. You should post your more specific ideas and questions there to see the reactions.

I converted my own Logan Grimnar as well and have never had any problems when I have gone to tournaments. It is rarely mistaken for anything other than Logan Grimnar. I have two links for pictures of him the first is not that great, the other is from a battle report on my blog, if you scroll to the bottom of the article you will see him under the "Man of the Match" section. WYSIWYG rules the day for counts as.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
My Logan is in a very very similar pose to the official one, is wearing wolfy terminator armor, with a double axe, a beard, and a stormbolter attached to his left arm. Everything except the left arm is done. I think I am going to go with the powerfist because a stormbolter looks better attached to it than a regular hand. I suppose it can be explained away as a special stormbolter mount/gaunlet type thing instead of a powerfist, if some anal retentive person throws a fit (which would be weird, considering how Logan has powerfist attacks whenever he wants - it's not like the visible powerfist would be tricking anyone, if anything it would be a more accurate representation of his abilities).
Overwatch, I am so glad you posted your version. When I first started looking up how people modeled Logan I saw capes everywhere, but after a little bit more searching I saw a number of cape-less ones. As a Space Wolves player I probably shouldn't say this, but I think that wolf pelt cape combo is F-ing slowed.

Personally I prefer all pelt or all cape. That being said though I do use the pelt/cape combo on several of my SW minis.
