With the recent release of the Ultramarines movie, which I personally think is amazing, I started wondering if the Horus Heresy could make it to the big screen anytime soon. Of course when the thought got into my head, I thought how awesome it would be to see the Primarchs in all their glory and regular Space Marines interacting with regular humans. To see all the awesome things going on in front of you. An amazing thought. Then I thought; Eragon. Yeah. I'm still sad about that. Hollywood ruins books and amazing premises like a scythe destroys grass. They could just hire some director with an almost unlimited budget and a poor sense of plot, story and origin of the idea. All looks and no depth. Just explosions, killing and amazing special effects.

But what if they got a good one?

I love the HH series and have so far read all but 1/2 of a book of it (working on Prospero Burns as we speak). However, I think it should really, really remain as a book. Best left to our imaginations without some crappy movie to screw it up.

If the movie was good - which it won't be - I'd say yes. However, it won't be and I'm more than happy with the novels.

I smell pessimist. Have you seen Ultramarines? There is definitely hope.

Pessimist or Realist? It's debatable.

But no I haven't seen Ultramarines, but with the (high) quality of the HH series, the reported averageness of Ultramarines, my own pessimism and the typical (lack of) quality in movie tie-ins, I don't hold much hope...

I'm worried they'll take the traitor primarchs and make them act like anakin skywalker, instead of acting conflicted they'll come across as winey.

In order for justice to be done to the series, which would be veeery long, they would have to have someone like Peter Jackson do it.

you would need a top notch director and CGI studio.


the main issue i see with doing the HH is that people could get bored with there being 1 movie after another with no clear end in sight although everyone knows the end result.


i seriously am wondering when the BL will get around to the siege of Terra.

Probably need to do a Trilogy of movies and as noted truncate quite a bit - although i am enjoying the series more and more.

Only books not keen on so far was the Dark Angels ones - just read the First Heretic and Prospero and really enjoyed.

I feel the former would make a good starting film as would A Thousand Sons............

but then I am also waiting for Robery Downey Jnr to star as Commissar Cain

Not interested. Make a Ciaphas Cain or a Faith and Fire movie, and I'll buy it. Make another Space Marine vs. Space Marine movie, and I don't give a damn.

Another? You mean like the 100's of others out there?

Eisenhorn would make for a very very good movie imo; with less focus on the big battlefields if what I've heard about it is correct.

And it would als be a chance to show many different locations, rather than battlefields, battlefields and more battlefields.

I would defiantly be a fan, if it was placed in the right hands. I'm reading the novels myself, currently on Fulgrim. So far I am really loving the books. It's nice to learn how the Heresy went down with all the deep details. Just wished the ending was in sight, Horus Heresy imho, shouldn't be a running series. To much can be just as bad as not enough.

It would take a very skilled director and CG to make this happen, but I think we may see it oneday.

Tim Burton would probably be a good choice for designing the warp.
