Vets with their BS 4 and 3 special weapons are natural candidates for receiving meltaguns. You've got a great chance least 1 penetrate per attack from even 12" away. It's a simple add on to any list: 1 melta vet squad =100pts.

That's a great way to get rid of vehicles, but what about infantry? What are your options?

Use the CCS as anti Infantry: This actually is a great way to get all the anti infantry you could want. Set up your CCS in cover with 2 plasmas and an auto cannon and watch the MEQs fall like leaves. Add a plasma pistol and at 100 points, it's an easy choice for an HQ.

Valkyries as transports: A great idea that allows you to deep strike your vets wherever you need them. Taking the Rocket pod and bolters upgrade means you can move 6", drop two large templates, a hail of bolter fire, and three multi-las shots. While it's not going to be earth shattering against MEQs, quantity of fire has a quality all it's own, and will reduce horde armies to cinders. 240pt for squad + pimped out Valkyrie makes for a building block of any army.

Plasma vets: Another option that precludes tanking vets as anti tank is adding plasma to your vets. For 135 points, you take 4 plasmas (1 pistol), and an autocannon. Suddenly, you're blowing away everything on the table, including your own squad, maybe. Probably best paired with a Chimera w/heavy stubber (200 pts, even) this is another valuable way to clear the board of those incoming hordes.

Other thoughts?

I almost never take P.Pistols personally as I find them to be over-costed, but YMMV.

I like these set-ups for vets:

Obviously: 3 x melta
l.cannon, p.gun x 3 in a chimera. They shoot out the back of the Chimera and sit on an objective.

a.cannon, g.launcher x 3. Cheap and puts out good anti-light mech and anti-infantry.

Throw in a Primaris for your HQ (cheapest option) and now you have a unit that pumps out a huge amount of flak fire.

Plasma vets are good too, though.

I have a friend who runs the Harker squad with an a.cannon, shotguns and flamers in a chimera and has really good success with it.

Yeah, if you're playing mech vets, that's what heavy flamers and heavy bolters on all your vehicles are for. If you're playing air-cav, then you just have some of your vendettas be valkyries with rockets.
