Sisters and until very recently, Dark Eldar were almost never played. That's what happens when your codex was updated in 2002, has no plastic troops choice models, or a thoroughly ugly range like the old Dark Eldar. Grey Knights always have somebody playing them since their models are cool and accessible. Necrons are also old but people see robot skeletons and think "cool!" despite the advice of more experienced players.

A minimum-sized troops choice of Battle Sisters with no upgrades costs 40 pounds and are Direct only, which means no discount. For this you get 10 two part models cast using moulds suffering from 14 years of wear and tear. For about the same price, you can get 30 multipart plastics with weapons options.

The Sisterhood is the top choice for this.

No plastic models.
GW don't even have them in the shop, not even this really good gameshop, and they even had a classic Orion from ages ago. And if they don't sell them, then no one wants them.

Aye, sisters of battle.

I'm putting together a SoB army at the moment, and it is very irritating to only have metals, and have my basic troopers all stuck in rigid poses. The nature of the models makes conversion tricky (but not impossible, thankfully) and the price is very steep- even chasing them down second hand can cost a lot.

For WHF, I would say Brettonians- at least in our area. Also, I only know one person with a full Tomb Kings army, which is a shame because they are awesome. I mean- units of chariots! That's just cool...

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

At my store the armies I have never seen are Dark Angels and Black Templars (using their rules). Sure they are SM, but they are different enough.

We have one SoB guy, and one nid player, but I have never seen models on a table for them.

For me let see, I got Space Wolfs every saterday, along with Blood Angels, Mech Imperial Guard, Dark Eldar, SoB once a month. I would say a shortagte of Orks as no one has feilded them since 4th edition here in Cali. But my friend has a force, just never played them. I am so tired of Space Wolfs every weekend since 1990.

I've never seen SoB or Dark Eldar on the table across from me. I rarely see Eldar. The one player nearby who did use them sold his army. I see Tau occasionally, Power Armor often, and Orks every time I bring out my Waaagh! IG every now and then, but not too regularly. I've played a surprisingly large number of Daemon armies.

I'd say Grey Knights even more so than Sisters. May change soon though.

I'm sure there will be more DA and BT with the updates given on the FAQs. I have never seen a sisters of battle army myself, but I've played against everything else. So I agree that they're the rarest in my area. One of my buddies (my mom's "boss") has sisters of battle though, just never fielded them

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

The only army I have never, ever played against has been Dark Eldar. Hopefully that will change what with the new codex and all. Even then, I've only played pure Sisters once, but Guard with Witch hunters allies plenty of times.

The ones I never saw were GK/SoB, Dark Eldar and Necrons, mostly because (until recently) they had such outdated Codices.

In WFB, I've never played another Tomb Kings player...

Rarity is principally down to promotion by Games Workshop or lack thereof.

It is secondarily down to army price to build, attractiveness of the range, competitive capacity of the army and age of the range.

Space Marines and their variants are always very popular due to the self-fulfilling prophecy that they are being bought in vast numbers because they are always in starter boxes, have a huge range of minis, dominate shop space, dominate pages of white dwarf and dominate the fiction and artwork.

This self fulfilling prophecy and the attention met out on the ranges and redone codices for the armies in direct proportion to popularity means the less popular armies with less range of miniatures and older codices slip further and further back.

I hope, really hope, that the popularity of the dark eldar releases show the folks at the top of GW that a more vigorous release and support schedule for all armies would promote expansion and purchase and that a '2nd army' goal is good for business. As it currently stands, people who purchase a WH or Necron army, for example, are treated as 2nd class customers by GW to those who buy SMs in terms of after sales support and gaming enjoyment.

We actually had folks at my FLGS playing everything except Witch Hunters. Then I started a Witch Hunters army. Now, we've got everything covered. There's still a greater concentration of Space Marines of various shapes and sizes than anything else, but there remains a person or two who play each of the other armies.

Definitly Sisters. we have one player who mostly proxies the army with only a few units of the actual models.

it's definitly because of the poor metal models. at least GK models look really cool(2 of those players), but the sisters are outdated AND poorly cast.

I play WH and Sisters... Mind I have in 10 years of playing in stores only ever seen them twice...

WHF Bretonnians and Beastmen.

Armies | Space Marines (Void Knights - Own Chapter), Space Wolves & Dark Angels | Imperial Guard Cadian and Kasrikin | Grey Knight/Sisters/Inquisitors | Empire - Hochland | Britanan (Relics) | Mordor & Gondor |

Disagree.

I think SOB are some of the best metal GW models ever done, especially considering they come from another era.

They had interesting detail and character and fit the flavor of their fluff.

The problem with them as an army is GW negelected them from a release/development standpoint (The WH codex was a cop-out: a half-hearted attempt to appease SOB players) AND also has made building an army of them prohibitively exspensive.

A major fail on GW's part, but then it isn't all that surprising either: GW has let a number of of characterful/iconic armies die (LATD, genestealer cults, etc., etc.).

GW has sacrificed diversity/creativity for increased profits. They are a buisness I know, but the game IS worse for it imho...

Well, at my LGS there's Marines, Eldar and Orks, with a rare appreance from anything else.

I do field my Deathwing, and the new FAQ makes that more likely to happen.

I see few Eldar or BT and DA. But a surprisingly large amount of SoB and GK. All the little kids either play Orks or SM, mainly the new BA. All the adults play IG. A few Nids but little DE.
