Anyone seen or have any good conversions of the Plastic Ven Dread into a Chaos Dread?
Also I'm planning on doing a conversion myself of the Ven Dread into a Word Bearers Chaos Dread. No personally I'm not into the whole mutated tenticles, fleshy growths etc. I prefer the ornate, intricate look myself.
So my plans are to use the flat sarcophagus with the details shaved off, I'm going to get one of the shields from the Chaos Knight sprue I just purchased (the one with the daemon face, hornes, tongue.etc) remove the shield parts then put it on the face of the sarcophagus with some GS to equal it out. I'm ordering (via BitsBarn) the giant brazzier from the base of the Skaven Screaming Bell will be mounted on the top center of the Dread body. I'm also planning on putting alot of banners and such with unholy script and Chaos runes.
Anyone else have any other ideas on what I could do for it?

it depends what sort of chaos your doing. like newly turned chaos or the old guys who have had enough time to alther all their armour and symbols. if they have just turned then it would be fairly easy. all youd need to do is add serious damage to the imperial eagles and slap a couple chaosy things on top. if on the other hand they are old guard, so to speak then that is another story. one which i dont have any ideas about

Have you seen the Forgeworld dreads? They're all similar to the Venerable style while still being obviously chaotic.

Since I said ornate and intricate armor it kind of gives it away that it's the old timers right?
Think of it this way, people convert dreadnoughts to represent chapters all the time. They give wolf pelts, runes and wolf skulls/claws to space wolves Dreds. Dark Angels get feathers and names of penitent Fallen etc.
This is what I'm looking for here, ideas I could use for the dreadnought to represent the Word Bearers themselves. Not the gods the actual Word Bearers legion. They're religious fanatics so the brazzier on the dreds top fits with priests burning incense, the daemon face is an ornate version of the legions symbol, the parchment will be dark versions of purity seals etc. Automatically Appended Next Post: And yes I've seen the Forgeworld dreads but I'm not looking to buy one and I don't particularly like the Word Bearers one that they made. Or most of the others for that matter

Well you asked for advice, and when people gave you some you said that's not what I wanted. The venerable dread comes with multiple armor plates, one set is entirely wording of previous battles but you can't really read it so you can use those as manuscripts for their writing etched into the armor. All over the dread, as well as that having a lot of parchment and seals all over the dread would be appropriate and I think with your other conversion ideas and a good paint job it would look pretty sound.
Edit: Also Forge World has one if you just want to be lazy.

One set of plates on the Dread frame makes the Dread look like some sort of walking chapel. It also comes with alot of Scrolls and purity seals, which (with some work) can be used as scrolls.
As for putty work, the obligitory Arrows and pointy trim (like on the corners of the Chaos Space Marine Shoulder pad).

Maybe pick up some of the Forge World icon sets and slap them onto some of the flat surfaces. They do chaos stars (I think- haven't checked in the last few months...) so that would work for Chaos Undivided. Then, use green stuff for some ornate edging and you're set.
Additional details could be things like skulls and bones on the leg parts, a bit like the Chaplain Dread, or some general spikes which can be gleaned from a lot of chaos box sets.

@Targeted: I did not ask for advice I asked for ideas, and just because I asked for ideas that does not mean I have to use every idea presented to me especially if they do not work with the look I am going for.
@Misguidance: That actually reminds me, I have a Chaos star that is ment to go on a vehicle (I forget how I got it) that I could use somewhere.
I'm also thinking of somehow putting some faces coming out around the fist almost as if the fists energy field dosen't come from technology but from sould trapped within the fist. Any ideas on what faces would be best to use? I'd like for it to look like they're actually apart of the metal.

Ooh, I like the faces idea!
I suppose you could get some skulls, and green-stuff them as if they are bulging out of the metal? Some of the Tomb Kings ones have nice open jaws, like they are screaming (and chances are the normal plastic skellies do too...) Other than that, all i can think of would be green stuff from scratch....
You need to post up pictures once this dread is done, by the way.

Hmm maybe not Zombies or Crypt Ghouls but what about the Corpse Cart? The bodies and such are very strung out and mashed together like souls would be. I woulden't be able to use the entire body and such but I may look into it.
Or maybe the Spawn head that's 3 faces together and just paint it the same color as the metal? Heck I could even use another of the Chaos Knight shields with the souls on it and some more GS to smooth it out but I kind of have that reserved for a Terminator

Actually, yes. That would work well, and would require less blending.

The faces coming out of the energy field is a good idea.
Grab as much chaos stars an slaanesh icons as possible, they are a good source of arrowes of different length to chaosify loyal dreads plates...
Tipios' blog is very good, you might grab some ideas there:

For Word Bearers, if you are good with free hand inscribing the sarcaphogus with scripture since alot of the armor word bearers wear are inscribed. I did my own WB dread but i built him out of the defiler model and made it bipedal, he is tall and doesn't survive long but looks amazing (pics in my gallery). Also the chaos vehicle sprue comes with a plate that looks as if it have a face coming out of it that could work for your power fist. I would also look at fantasy bits as some of the banners would work well for it and maybe others.
Just my $.02

Hmm I know what plate you're talking about from the chaos vehicle sprue and it looks great but I'm not sure it would work because of its size compared to a dread arm and I want the souls down on the forarm/hand area ya know?

Hey Warboss,
I know you look at my thread already because Hyenajoe sugested it (thanks Hyenajoe ).
The idea of using that chaos shiled with the face on is a good idea. I did it over the weekend, it takes alot of filling but well worth it.
I've updated on my blog, but here's the picture.
Also I am trying to cut up the warp face like you want, so it will fit on a shoulder, if it works I will put it on my blog. Hyenajoe did a good GS version on his nurgle dread, you could try that. You've got to start GS sculpting a some point, give it a go.
Check out all the chaos vehicle spurs for parts to add. Chains and skulls are a good addition too.
Good luck

@Ironfrontalex: Ok I took a look and the image you have of the dread with 2 ccw was the most helpfull, I like the idea of the curch archs and I found a tutorial awhile back on how to paint sould on to Chaos tanks so I think I'll try and put a soul inferno type image in between each of the archs.
@Samus_aran115: I'm not going to do actual banners like standards and such I ment that I'll be putting scrolls of parchment hanging throughout the dreadnought that are covered in Chaos runes and prayers of Lorgar.
