I love my Kindle! Does anyone know if BL is looking at releasing their 40K novels for Kindle?

The Black Library have their own store which sells the books as ePub files if I remember correctly. So you buy the books off them and then put them on the Kindle.

I doubt the GW/BL would allow for another store to take a large share of profit from their sales, such as amazon

You think that everyone in the 41st uses parchment instead of a computer because it's supposed to make things grimdark? They're actually just enforcing company policy.

I already have twice as many BL books on my kindle as I do on my bookshelf. All of the digital releases on their site are available in the kindle mobi format.

Amazon Kindle and the iBook stores both take a slice of the profits, which would bite into BLs profits. If BL can keep it in house it's a smart move. Whilst I see that Kindle/iBooks are more convenient to buy from their built in stores I think the current method makes more sense. IMO the smartest thing to do would be BL direct / Hardback on release day and then Kindle/iBook store after 4 weeks. This does have a drawback as the Kindle store either has or will have the capacity to undercut the competition whilst preserving the publisher's payment. This idea of loss leaders is common in brick and mortar stores and would erode Black Library's profits if people knew they could wait and get it for half the direct price.

I hope BL hold out as it increases the likelihood of more books being published as I could see them cutting back if they weren't able sustain their current profit level.

On the other hand, by staying independent they have to deal with:
  • Providing their own customer support

  • Managing the download site

  • Paying for bandwidth

  • Promotion is their problem

  • I'd argue that it may make more sense to go with the big boys (Apple and Amazon, at this point) since they've already discovered that covering even a few international currencies is hard.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Books are online for both Kindle and Nook formats. Books are only sold in GBP so be prepared for your bank to charge you for the currency conversion if you live the USA. The exchange rate puts the books about $9.5/10 + whatever percentage your bank might add on to that for the currency exchange.
But all HH books and lots of others are online now.

I still say BL should release their own E-Book reader and make it look like a data slate! now that would be cool, plus GW could release codexs and rule books on it...
