I have been thinking about starting a new army i have IG gun line already.. I wanted an assault oriented space marine army that was really fast and excelled in CC, i dont like blood angel color/fluff/band wagon.. I'm curious to if the black templars codex is still viable, what kind of tricks they have up their sleeve, whats makes them special what do they have thats different, and lastly i want them to be mobile and lots of drop pods.. any help? Thanks guys

Their codex is really dated, but some of it was updated in the recent FAQ, so they get stuff like 3+ invulnerable saves from Storm Shields now. They can also get army-wide preferred enemy, which is boss. They've also got really great models. There are more competitive books out there, but you can still do some damage with Black Templars.

BT are still good. they can have the emperor's champion give the army preferred enemy for just 50pts. thats a pretty massive upgrade. that makes assault terminatoes even more deadly.

their drop pods are nice too! and only 30 points and they have machine spirit.

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

I am also wondering about the whole marine and neophyte mixed squad what exactly is that?

Basically the Neophytes are there to die instead of the marines. The key is to have enough that the 3+ save is the majority though.

You can't have more neophytes than marines, so the 3+ will always be in majority. Not that it matters, since you use the armour save for the model you've allocated the wound to...

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

There is already a thread going on the viability of BT armies here.
