So I'm trying to model a puffy black eye on one of my miniatures. I know that most of the imagery will come from the painting, but I'm at a loss on how to do it modelling wise. Fiddling with modelling putty seems to be the way to go, but I'm not really sure of the technique. Anyone have any suggestions?

maybe a tiny drop of glue? I have never tried that out, but maybe it will look a bit thicker, and more like a bruised eye.

Unless you have mad GS skills I would just try painting it bruised and irritated.

If you have some great skill with GS, I would suggest putting the putty eye right over the eye sock and model it to your liking.

If your like me and have little skill with GS, you could layer paint until it is thick enough for you.

Just to clarify, I'm pretty prolific with GS. I'm in no way a pro, but I'd say I'm competent at it.

How badly swollen do you want this guy's face? A seriously banged up eye would be nearly swollen shut, so you could get away with plopping a little ball of GS over the eye, blending it into the face somewhat steeply, then incising a slit where the two swollen lids would meet (note that the top lid usually hangs more heavily and swells more, but the cheek swells more than the brow - at least, that's my experience). Paint it up with some blues and purples blended over your flesh tones and you'll be golden.

drill the eye out a little and put a small bead into it. you can pick pots of them up from guarded stores really cheap. their the ones for making fish tanks and candle pots look pwiddy but they work well for studs, eyes, rivets etc
