Plummeting Black Templar Thunderhawk Pilot

Two things that came up at our game recently:
1) If I shoot at a vehicle through one of my own squads, does said vehicle get a cover save? According to the rulebook, vehicles don't follow the rules for cover as infantry do and need to be obscured at least 50% to claim a cover save. In this case the vehicle was in full view (despite the squad in front), but my opponent felt that a cover save should apply. Should a cover save have been awarded?
2) If an IC embarks onto a Land Raider with a squad inside (therefore automatically joining that squad), can the transport move, and then the unit (minus the IC, who remains inside the transport) disembark + assault?
Thanks!

1) no, for the reasons that you stated.
2) technically yes.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it the IC which instigates leaving a squad by moving more than 2" from the unit he is joined to? I know this is possible if both the IC and Unit disembark simultaneously, but if the IC is not able to disembark I question whether the unit is able to 'leave' the IC behind. While I personally think this should be possible, I just want to clarify it as permissible.

I'm pretty certain an IC can't join and leave a squad in the same phase.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

Rymafyr, thats the train of thought I had. But the rules for disembarking seem to throw this up in the air a bit, so i'm not entirely sure.

You can do so, because disembarking from a vehicle is different for ICs. The unit can disembark leaving the IC behind, and therefore the IC hasnt embarked and disembarked in the same turn.
