Don't give me that crap about picking what I like. I'm a painter first, gamer second. I like damn near every army at some point.

Currently I own: High Elves, Wife's Dark Elves, and she wants to start VC.

I prefer themed armies over min/maxed armies, so a WAAC army isn't important to me. For example: if I went with Daemons, I wouldn't mix gods. It would be ALL of one god. Same with Woc etc.

My current thoughts are(in no specific order):

Tzeench Warriors
Dwarves
Orcs
Goblins(I consider them 2 different armies thematically)
Empire(for the 3rd time)

Haven't seen many Tzeench armies recently. Or how about Lizard Men? Then you'd get to paint dinosaurs....

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

Dont do Tzneech WoC, theres too little variety if you do just pure warriors. I would go with an army with a little more flair (I too am a hobbiest first, and i have MoT Warriors, it gets boring quick).

I would go with Dwarves or Goblins personally. You can do alot with dwarfs and i find goblins a fun army to see played (plus they are getting a new book so perhaps new models as well).

Do you play against your wife often? Why has empire been dismissed twice before? I am only asking because I think empire seems to go naturally against VC and they would offer you a chance to express your imagination for a theme.

dwarfs, wood elves, dark elves, bretonnians, WOC,
space wolves, orks, eldar

Empire was my first army, which I then sold when I needed money. I then played Lizardmen and again sold them. Then I played Bretonnians, got burnt out on painting horses, sold them. Went back to Empire and foolishly sold them(last of the 6th edition models, very hard to find now) and went back to lizardmen. Sold the lizardmen last year to start up High Elves after my wife decided on Dark Elves.

Those 2 armies aren't being sold any time soon. So no lizardmen as I just got out of them, and I'm not tragically keen on the current Empire soldiers, so it'd be a TON of recasting of some 6th edition sprues I saved. One day, but not likely soon.

If I do WoC they will have to be Tzeentch as it is the only god I have any interest in. I'm just not sure of the state of WoC as a whole in their performance and army design.

If it comes down to dwarves and goblins I'll end up picking goblins just for the departure from standard army tactics and design.

And yes, I play mostly against my wife.

Goblins are fun, yesterday my buddy played my dwarfs with his. He had worked my dwarfs down to the lone thane/bsb after releasing fanatics and beating down my guys, then a lone fanatic went back through his unit and died on it taking 8 wounds for the 30 night goblins he had left. They panicked and ran and my lone dwarf then pursued and chopped them all down. He ended up winning but we were laughing for a few minutes when that happened. My recommendation is load up on all the warmachines and fanatics you can, they make for a great game.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

I've always thought about building a night goblins army. They do look entertaining, although the animosity rule seems to be a pain. There was one game that the goblin player only moved one of his units once in six turns, while frustrating it was amusing.

Any thoughts on the theme you would use?

Goblins would be night goblins that have taken up a cave in the mountains hear Vampire territory. Dwarves oddly enough would more or less be the same thing. I'd probably max out magic on goblins as well as warmachines.

That goblin strategy seems a solid one. Doom divers and lobbers are very much worth their points. And characters are cheap.

Orcs and/or Goblins. New book in March & new models

...including (as rumour would have it) a big arse spider in the rare units section
