I know this kind of sounds stupid, but in the Eldar codex under the Avatar, it says that he benefits from a 3+ armor save AND a 4+ invulnerable save. I know that it says in the BRB that you only have one armor save, but is this an exception to the rule? or is it saying you have both of them, not necessarily that you may use both at the same time.

An invulnerable save is not an armor save.

Yes, you use both of them, but only one at any given time.
Basically, against AP 3 weapons or lower, you use the invulnerable save. Against AP 4 weapons or higher, or any other attack that allows an armor save, use the armor.
You may NEVER roll 2 different saves for a single attack.

You have the both options open to you. However, as you noted you may only take one or the other option.

It's no different to a SM Captain with his 3+(2+ if artificer) armour /4+ invul saves.
He doesn't get two saves against wounds, he gets the best applicable save against wounds.

Alright, thought so, the wording just seemed different, and misleading, compared to the other ways it is stated for other units.
