Lately I have been planning on starting Doom Eagles(probably using BA codex) after I paint all my current models and get more games in, and I had a few quick questions on Vanguard Vets. I LOVE the models, but their armament from the set is far from ideal for my army. So this is my question: How easy would it be to get the equipment I need to convert them? Where would I get it?

It would be a good idea to say what I would want. I was planning on giving them all power weps and jump packs and Sargent with a lighting claw, its expensive, especially if I would want to go 10-man, so I might only have a few Power weps, but either way I hate the idea of plasma pistols with assault troops, so thats out definitely.

I have no idea of the arms are attached to the body or not. If they're not attached, then it should be easy to change the weapons. If they're not, then you'll be in for some metal-sawing my friend.

Two of the Vanguards seem to already be armed with power swords. You could use the "sarge" model as a normal one, and convert another with lightning claws. See if you can find a Salamanders player. They should have an excess of lightning claws as their Terminators are likely armed with SS/TH combo. You can either cut the claw at the top of the arm to fit it with the Vanguard's shoulderpad, or shave down the shoulder of the Lightning Claw arms and put on normal SM pads.

EDIT: There seems to be three armed with power swords. Simply just get duplicates of those vanguards if you dont wanna convert, or give the two non-power sword ones a weapon swap with leftover pieces from SM sprues and possibly some looted weapons from elsewhere (you can get alot of swords from various fantasy sets, or make them out of plasticard).

And as for the sarge, instead of going trhough all that, maybe consider this veteran model? http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440275a&prodId=prod1060049 Just give him a jump pack from the Vanguard set and you should be all set.

My thoughts exactly on the single vet model you linked to. I just saw the MkI set and all the single models and thought "wow, maybe I can get these, then just buy jump packs?"

The only problem with him though is the fact that 1.) he doesnt have the Jump Pack strap and 2.) he has a rather still stance, not really invoking the Vanguard feel.

I think the lightning claw arms might be separate. Maybe you can bitz-order them from a bitz store and do the same with the vanguard's body and jump pack.
