While I'm certain the metal Wrack models that GW puts out are going to be brilliant, and I may even pick a unit up. the fact is that I'd REALLY prefer to have a metal-free Dark Eldar force, as much as possible (Certain HQ models, excepted).

I'm wondering if I might tap the relatively massive knowledge base of Dakka for ideas. Are there any plastic or resin kits anyone knows of that I could use for Wracks? I'm already working on a unit of conversions from GW kits but, at about $70 for a unit of 10 ( ), I'm at a point that I'd prefer to just look outside of GW for them.

Thoughts? Ideas? Links?

Thanks!

Eric

Perhaps some Mechanithralls from Warmachine? Won't save you money, but certainly has the right feel, IMHO. So long as you do head swaps to make them look less dead?

Aren't the mechanithralls METAL (ie, what MM wants to AVOID)?

Haven't read the codex yet. Are the wracks meant to be smaller or larger than the grotesques?

I know one guy who is using rat-ogres as a basis for his DE big beastie things (with extra tails as tentacle things, and spikes and stuff. I'm helping him with some of the details, but I'm busy for the next two weeks and out of town).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I think these wracks are brilliant. Made by DPBellathrom.

Empire Flagelant legs, crypt goul bodies & arms, wyche heads. I reckcon you could make a squad like this for under 50 using ebay and bits order.

Unless something's changed, Mechanithralls *are* metal.
I've already been looking at some Cryx models (Mind Slaves). If I MUST go metal, I'll probably support a non-GW company. Then again, if the Wrack metals come out and are fantastic... then who knows.

As for those Wrack conversions... If you look in the thread where that image is posted, you'll see some of my own conversions using similar ideas (Flagellants, ghouls, Tzeentch Horror arms and DE Reaver heads) but, like I said, for the cost involved, I'd rather just see if I can find a plastic or resin kit.

@Chromedog
Wracks are smaller than Grotesques. I saw the Rat Ogre conversions someone posted and, while they look fantactic, I don't feel that they look like they *should*, according to the illustrations in the codex. I have one conversion done & under the brush, using a Chaos Spawn as a base. I like the body shape and customability more.

Thanks for the ideas so far.

All over

A friend if mine made them out of old dark eldar warriors. They look good enough. But those in the picture made from the different kits are very nice.

Just want to confirm, you want resin stand-ins for Wracks, no metal allowed, and no conversion work?

That's kind of a tall order. Most miniatures are metal simply due to availability of pewter to make them. It takes a lot more effort to come up with modular figures that can be assembled any number of ways than a couple static sculpts.

Maybe you can find some Confrontation figures? They're made out of plastic now and are pre-painted. The Scorpions/Alchemists of Dirz are probably a good start.

Like I said, I've not even seen the codex yet.

So Wracks are small ones, grotesques are the larger ones. Right.

Going for more of an Uber-hulk look than bestial.

Also maybe some AT-43 Therians? Like their assault golems or assault goliaths?

@btswan

You got it. Plastic or resin kits. No conversions. Tired of the converting already. LOL

@Chrome
Yes. Wracks are the smaller ones. Where DE's are tiny waifish things, the Wracks are probably about the size of a muscular man, as is my estimation.

I'll check out the AT-43 & Confrontation lines. I doubt the cheap, rubbery plastic will work for me, as they'll have to be repainted, but it'll be a place to start, at least.

Thanks, guys.
