So four of my friends and I got together to play our first 40k game. Another friend who was going to teach us to play was hosting it, making six of us total. We split up into two teams. My Dark Eldar plus Tau and Eldar vs. two Ork armies and more Eldar. The Eldar forces were so small (because the players couldn't afford larger armies) that they did almost nothing throughout the whole battle. Each team was supposed to have a rough total of 1000 points, but we went over by 218, if memory serves, and they by 221. Here's my list:

Archon w/ Combat Drugs, Soul Trap, Ghostplate Armor, Haywire Grenades

9 Kabalite Warriors w/ Splinter Cannon
Syrabite w/ Phantasm Grenade Launcher, Venom Blade

9 Wyches w/ Razorflails, Hydra Gauntlets
Hekatrix w/ Venom Blade

9 Wyches w/ Razorflails, Hydra Gauntlets
Hekatrix w/ Venom Blade

Raider w/ Dark Lance

Unfortunately, I left my notes at the host's house, so I'm doing this from memory (except I know my army list is precise because I remembered to take that back with me). Anyway, I think the Tau had a squad of Fire Warriors, a squad of Kroot Carnivores, a Piranha, and a Crisis Battlesuit. The Eldar had a squad of Guardians, a Jetbike, some Infiltrators, and maybe a Farseer? Not sure about that last one. I just know he had an HQ. The other team had two squads of 'Ard Boyz, a Weird Boy, a Trukk, some Killa Kanz, and some Deffkoptaz. The other Eldar had a few guardians, a Farseer (again, I'm not sure about this), and a Support Weapon Battery.

And, very unfortunately, our battle was cut short after only a few turns, so there wasn't even a winner! This was more of a test run. Oh, and sorry for my sloppy diagram, I didn't take pictures and this wasn't really an important enough battle for me to bother detailing a nice diagram for each turn. Basically, the light blue lines are the deployment lines, the gray things are bunkers, the black letters are DE, red are Tau, blue are Eldar, and green are Orks. And remember, ALL these numbers, except for my DE, are approximations.

KW=Kabalite Warrior
S=Syrabite
W=Wych
H=Hekatrix
A=Archon

K=Kroot Carnivore
FW=Firewarrior
?=Unknown; I forgot

G=Guardian
F=Farseer
JB=Jetbike
WB=Support Weapon Battery

B='Ard Boy
W=Weird Boy
DK=Deffkopta
KK=Killa Kan

Oh, and the black oval is the raider, the red rectangle is the Piranha, and the green rectangle is the Trukk.

By the way, my combat drugs granted my Wyches and Archon a pain token right off the bat. It didn't really do much good, though.

- Orks, Orks & Eldar Turn 1 - The Killa Kanz take out one Firewarrior--the nearest one--and although we don't think much of it at the time, it becomes important later on. The Boyz on the right launch a rocket at my Raider, but miss! Phew!

- Dark Eldar, Tau & Eldar Turn 1 -

Everyone moves up and hugs the nearest bunker, except for my Raider and the Eldar's Jetbike, which hug the far left bunker.

- Turns 2 and 3 -

These turns I'm going to have to lump together. I cannot seem to separate them in my memory.

The Trukk moves around the my Raider and fires at it, immobilizing it and taking out its gun. The Weird Boy and his 'Ard Boyz teleport to the Raider and assault it. Deffkoptaz move out and Wreck my Raider. I'm glad that everyone is ignoring the Jetbike, which is much more of a threat than my Raider, which has served its purpose and which I was going to abandon anyway. My Wyches pile out, shooting and assaulting the Boyz. My kabalite warriors shoot them from the other side. Sadly, I only manage to destroy 9 of them. They retaliate and take out 7 of my wyches, crippling my unit.

Something, I think it's the Trukk, obliterates the entire Kroot unit. The Firewarriors are shot at, but are missed because they are out of range, thanks to their closest model having already been removed as a casualty! The Eldar HQ (I think it's a Farseer) is taken out by what I think are Boyz. The Tau player plans to use a seeker missile, but I can't remember if he ever got to or not.

The mass of Orks surges on, wiping the rest of my wyches off the table. They hit my Warriors with 96 freaking attacks! (I'm still not sure about how this happened. Is it even possible??) I insist on attempting to roll to save them, but fail miserably (of course). I say good bye to another unit. Finally, the Tau are Deep Striking and the Eldar are bringing out the Infiltrators. My other Wych unit and Archon are planning to move forward, crushing all in their path, and meeting up with the Tau and Eldar behind enemy lines. But just as we plan our comeback and things get interesting, we're out of time! Not to go into boring RL details, but we have to leave. No victor can be declared

Well, we all learned a lot, and hopefully we'll be able to play a whole game next time. Sorry for my bad memory, but I hope my terrible report wasn't too confusing. All I can say is that the Orks were overwhelming. How the hell did I get hit with 96 attacks?! Despite them going first and wreaking havoc upon our forces, I really think we were about the turn it around. Oh, well. We'll never know for sure.

Thoughts, comments, questions?

Sound like a cool game.

DE wynches are better against SM as they have poisoned (power?) weapons. They get swamped by tyranids and orks however. A 20 man boyz unit on the charge should be putting out 80 WS4 S4 attacks. They are even deadlier with a PK nob with a BP.

As far as I can tell you have a pretty solid DE list. You probably just want a few more raider's.

They are not poisoned, which would give them re-rolls if they had equal/higher strength, it just always wounds on a 4+, but yes you are right, Agonizers are a pain in the for my Blood Angels.

I agree with him, try not to get stuck with Blobs, especially Ork blobs. Those things will wear you down very quickly, and if you've lost the Furious Charge bonus (if you had that) then you're even further in the hole.

Raiders are always nice

Nice battle report, it looked pretty fun.

Yeah, I would've got more raiders but I bought the last one my gaming shop had. Thanks for the positive feedback, though!

I see a lot of people saying wyches have poisoned weapons... They do not. Their splinter pistols are poisoned but not the blades. It's the Haemonculi Wracks that have poisoned weapons in melee. I'm surprised they took so many losses. Between your 4++ dodge roll and the 4+ FNP they are pretty durable in close combat. It certainly seems like it was a fun game though. Would you be inclined to share more battle reports with us?

Edit: Yes though, the sergeant can take an agonizer or venom blade. Both are poisoned but the agonizer is also a power weapon (4+ wounds no armor save). The venom blade is just a poisoned (2+) CCW. If you roll +1 strength with combat drugs suddenly your poison weapons are wounding like crazy!
