I'm starting an emperors children army list, and I keep hearing a lot of hype about this ability, I can understand it comes in handy, but I don't see what all the fuss is about.

So I pretty much just want to know how it can best be used, what tactics it's good to combine with and pretty much just why it's so great!

THANKS!

Push enemies away, clump them up and drop templates on them. Or pull them out of cover and drop templates on them. Or, move them in range and rapid fire or drop templates on them. I guess you can also push or pull them off objectives. Not really fun without the template part.

Pull units you want into assault range.
Push units you don't want to assault you out of move+assault range, optionally putting some or all of them into Difficult Terrain to slow them further.
Drag enemy bikes/jump infantry through Difficult Terrain to make them take Dangerous Terrain tests.
Put enemy units into perfect range & formation to maximize template hits. I've dealt 45+ hits with three flamers to a unit of Orks.
Bunch enemy units up for large blasts (Vindi, Defiler) or for multiple small blasts (oblit plasma, havoc frag missiles). I've dealt dozens of hits with plasma, and 40+ hits with four frags.
Bunch enemy units together with OTHER enemy units to allow you to hit them both at once with blast templates.
Put enemy move OR fire units (like Devastators) behind something which blocks their LOS, to keep them from shooting for a turn.
Go second and move enemy objective-holders off of objectives on turn 5, 6, and 7. Laugh.
Move enemy screening units out of the way so you have a clear shot at other units behind them.

Is there any way not to use Lash effectively? Just fzorgle that and win.

I lost a game Saturday in part due to an ineffective Lash. I moved a synapse creature out of range to rally a unit of Genestealers, not realizing that the Tervigon could just move back into range before the 'Stealers fell back, thus wasting my whole effort.

Sometimes you also roll too short a distance to get the unit where you need them.

It's not unstoppable, by any means, but it is incredibly flexible and useful.

First off, I don't recommend lash princes. They are easy for most serious armies to kill these days, and they are the lynch pin of the entire army. Go with sorcerers hiding in squads.

Secondly, blast weapons w/lash are idea. Plasma cannon shots, vindicator or defiler shots, and blastmaster shots on clumped up units is pretty nice.

Lastly, keep in mind this isn't a tier one list anymore. It has been passed by better lists (anything 5th ed, and some strong older lists like SoB), and trumped with the move to mechanized forces. It still has strong matchups, but those matchups are less common than than once were.

QFT.

I was facing a lash prince the other day, and brought him down on turn 2. T5 and 4 wounds just goes down fast....

Gotta hide your lash princes in the first turn or two, until your transports start giving your opponent's antitank guns other things to worry about. If you're playing on tables which don' give any places to hide princes, definitely take sorcerers instead.
