It appears that just dowloading the latest FAQ from GW doesn't give me the latest updates for my first edition Codex. I've seen some references I don't recognize already. What do I need to be up to date on the Necron rules?? I've got the 5th ed rulebook, just want to update my codex.

You need to buy the current edition codex (which is actually the 3rd edition one). GW never does downloadable updates for codexes. If you do have the same codex as the one they have on the main page, then you should flip through the core rulebook, as alot of things changed from 4th to 5th.
