Subject: passengers shooting out of a open-top transport?

This was brought to my attention what I was play whit DE warriors in a raider.
Now I thought passengers in a fast open toped transport can shoot all there weapons if the transport has moved 12" or cruising speed, but that count as moved so only rapid fie and assault weapons right.
But in the rule book it saids passengers cant fire out of a transport if it has moved more then 6" or combat speed.
So I would like to know is their any merit to this?

You can only fire your weapons if you moved at combat speed (i.e. up to 6") or less, regardless of being Fast, open-topped or both.

Well, you thought wrong. As you have seen in the rulebook, passengers are limited to firing from vehicles that have moved 6" or less (with the single exception of Red Paint Job).
No exception is given to Fast vehicles, so it naturally applies to them as well.
You are not the first (nor the last, I suspect) to have thought this. Use the Search function next time.

Search is....not always helpful. You have to be fairly careful with terms.

Oh, I totally agree.
The Search engine sucks big time. The worst thing is that sometime it is exceedingly helpful, but most of the time it is completely useless.
Doesn't prevent us from trying it.....like the OP says he has.

Just use Google to search on the forum. Generally works much better than using the forum's own search engine.

Don't feel bad, dude, I did the same thing two weeks ago! Legoburner will fix the search function sooner or later.
That's a good tip about using Google to search the forums, I had not thought of that.

how about when deep-striking in? The FAQ says that embarked models count as deep striking but the vehicle is counted as having moved at 'cruising speed'.

IF the vehicle counts as moving cruising speed, what speed do the passengers count the vehicle as moving as in order to determine if they are eligible to fire out?
Hint: cruising speed.

Except the poster was asking about passengers being able to fire.
If you have disembarked you are no longer a passenger.

But it is relevant to mention as it presents an alternative to simply staying in your transport and not shoot after having moved 6"+.

It is, however, not an alternative open to all races (DE, for example)

I do not if you could push it being TFG but its states Page 70 open toped tansport vehicles.
"All passengers in a OTV may fire" e.g. you can move 12" and shoot

No, they cannot. AS has been repeatedly stated in this and the 1000 other threads on this very topic. The VERY specific phrasing for firing points and speed overrides this.
PLease do a search before adding yet more cloud to a very clear issue: you cannot, while embarked, fire if the vehicle moves 6" or more, regardless of your vehicle being fast, open topped or brown.
A codex specific rule would override this, of course, but no such rule yet exists.

ThatMG, you are incorrect; the paragraph on fire points still controls passenger shooting. If you try to use the statement on p.70 out of context like that, it also leads to the conclusion that the passengers can shoot while the vehicle's moving 24".

yeah I did not know was just cheking I see that you must move 6" to shoot kindof lame. Another question then can they move 12" get out and shoot negating said rule.

Yes, if the squad disembarks then they may shoot. The game balance is they now lose the protection of the vehicles.

Which in the case of a Raider, might mean they are better protected by getting out!
