In similar fashion can any IC join any squad of vehicles?

Wow, I never saw that line before. I used to join my Farseer to a Wraithlord all the time! and it was legal in 3rd and 4th, but not now....

It was legal in 4th. The problems caused by having IC's joined to vehicles are, and potential abuses with the mixed toughness rules are, I suspect, what led to the current rule stopping IC's from joining vehicles and single-model units.

yeah but in 4th you could also have a Space marine tac squad Sgt w/ paired Lightning claws on a Bike and have the squad ride in a rhino.
