So I've picked up two boxes of Warriors and started shaving and filing.
I've also got three sets (6 total) of FW Boneswords.

I am planning on using one set of swords to make a Tyranid Prime which leaves me with a big decision to make on equipping the last 5 Warriors.

I've always heard it said that in 5E Warriors in groups of three just don't have the staying power to make it worth fielding them. I had thought to make 3 of my Warriors Bonesword CC machines and the other 3 Dakka Warriors- but this obviously goes against the pre-mentioned advice.

I could just make my CC Prime and have the other 5 be Dakka Warriors- but then there are 4 beautiful boneswords with no xenos hands to wield them. I've never fielded any myself so I am just going off of what I read.

Has anyone fielded Warriors- CC or Dakka- and how do you build your units to be effective?

Close combat is lash whip/bone sword as a MUST. Bone sword as a second rate power weapon wannabe but it's all we got and lash whips to kinda sorta half-baked deal with the 'HAHA YOU'RE AN ASSAULT ARMY WITHOUT ASSAULT GRENADES, HOPE YOU LIKE DYING' crap. Toxin sacks on top of that can make them truly, truly vicious but by then the points are really creeping up.

All of this is of course avoiding the fact that you shouldn't use Tyranid Warriors in the first place. Many more times than not they'll eat instant death for breakfast, lunch and dinner then go to bed dead.

krak missiles are yummy. I like them for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sometimes even as an afternoon snack.

Tyranid prime is good, but he can only take so many ID wounds off the warriors. LW&BS is good on him. For the warriors... devourers and deathspitters are both decent weapons, I've seen people who prefer both. Problem with boneswords is they are so expensive and warriors are quite slow. It really depends on your army, but you might want to consider giving them some shooty support and keep them cheapish. Devourers are pretty good for the price.

Thank you both.
Shame about the swords. They look so cool.
Maybe I can save them- bulk them up- and give them to a Swarmlord later on.

It depends. If you are dropping them in a spore pod (witouth the IC) I would go for rending claws, scything tallons and poison in a dreadnought heavy envioorment.

In a non dread heavy enviorment I would go for scything tallons and boneswords. They key is to keep the costs down.

Lash whips are practically mandatory unfortunately. Anyone who has played 'nids and sees what the failures in the codex are will put their units in cover specifically to make you attack at initiative 1 because 'LOL ASSAULT ARMY WITHOUT ASSAULT GRENADES'. For Warriors this can be a death sentence without Lash Whips. At least with them you can take the target down as your Warriors fail miserably.

...Boneswords are literally just better than power weapons. They are power weapons, with an additional effect.

A leadership check that has a vanishingly remote chance to fail isn't exactly as impressive as doubling your strength, or built-in rerolls without having to pay for other options on the model or passing your own leadership test to instant kill the other guy. Admittedly the last one's a psychic weapon and not a power weapon. Even so the option of having Str 8 Tyranid Warriors would be fantastic. Instead it's a leadership check. Whoopee.

So you are comparing them to powerfirst, relic blades, lightening claws, and force weapons? Well... that is somewhat different than the original statement comparing them to 'power weapons'. I think the revised statement is pretty solid... hard to argue with. But, just to throw this out there... if Tyranids had all the cool weapon options that marines had, what would be the reason to play marines? Surely they have to have something to balance out the fact that they have lots of multiwound models, lots of cheaper models, and lots of MCs?

Somewhere in south-central England.

The problem with Warriors is the Instant Death weapons, of which most IoM armies carry lots, backed up by plenty of AP4 weapons.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
That said, my Warriors are equipped with Devourers. Each squad also has either a Venom Cannon or the other support weapon available, for a bit of extra firepower and the wound allocation trick. My HQ is a Prime with twin boneswords.

I only had three warriors plus Prime at my last event. This was too few. They do need to be deployed in larger squads to have much chance of survival. I had to keep them lurking in cover as a synapse unit.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
