One of the biggest ires of playing CSM right now is the dated-ness of the rules and the fact we lost the "Legion Rules" from 3.5. While writing up my own codex or using a fan-made one is fun, it's not really acceptable everywhere and will always have rule disputes. So I'm seeking to see if people here can make a list of acceptable Rules and Codexes to use to represent various Traitor Legions. I'm mainly inspired by Chaos Lord Gir and Wardragoon, who have caused me to look deeper into the organisation of the two chaos legions in question.

So here's the list of what I do have:

World Eaters - Black Templars with Abhor the Witch Vow and no heavy weapons. Very much the same as the 3.5 Chaos Codex World Eaters, as they are prone to episodes of rage. Neophytes can be left out or be taken as Blood Pact as discussed in Gir's thread.
Night Lords - Blood Angels. Swift attacks and reliance on Drop pods and Assault troops means that BAs are the best canidate for them. Restrictions largely include to using only Jump Pack equipped troops for the builk of their forces, and no post-heresy stuff.
Word Bearers - Space Wolves. They can field a proportionally higher number of "Dark Apostles" (Wolf Priests). Iron Hide Daemons can be represented with Blood Claws or Skyclaws while Bloodcrushers can represent TWCs and Flesh Hounds can be Fenrisian Wolves.
Iron Warriors - Vanilla SM with Master of the Forge for HQ and possibly alot of Thunder Fire Cannons to represent Obliterators.

Ones that really should remain with the normal Codex: CSM:

Black Legion - They're basically the Ultramarine Equivallent of CSMs so no further rules needed.
Death Guard - Their unique profile makes it kinda hard to use them with any other codex.
Noise Marine - Their Sonic Weaponry are really, really unique. Although for Pre-heresy, BA is the best.

Ones I have no idea really:

Thousand Sons - Someone mentioned Space Wolves, but there's no way to represent rubric Marines. Plus Space Wolves are their mortal enemies, so it seems....less than appropriate.
Alpha Legion - Maybe a vanilla force led by Shrike, but without anything close to a Cultist analogue, they're kinda relegated to the same status as the Iron hands, close to what was intended, but not really there. BT would not work due to the fact that Alpha Legionnaires are level headed and wont charge blindly into enemy forces (which the BTs are prone to do).

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Also, I'd recommend Blood Angels for World Eaters and I find the irony of Thousand Sons/Space Wolves far too appropriate.

"It is the great irony of the Legiones Astartes: engineered to kill to achieve a victory of peace that they can then be no part of."
- Roboute Guilliman

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

Alpha legion is best played as vanilla. They are not really a chaos legion, so Vanilla fits more.
