Hey guys here's a little information about me, I live in United States in Indiana, i started playing warhammer 40k at around 12 and took a slight break when i was 14, i am now 15 and back at it for good! I currently go to high school and love to play soccer and hang out with my friends and girl friend. I am creating this to give me motivation to keep getting things painted and to improve my painting skills! I have hit a wall at improvement so thoughts good and bad are WELCOME! Now to why you actually clicked on this link... The content!

Some fluff for my Regiment to be continued.. Scroll down for pics.

Coronan History
501st Coronan Grenadier's home world is Corona a desert world in the Wheel of Fire, an isolated group of 500 planets in Eastern Spiral Subsector of Ultima Segmentun near ork empire of Cheradon. It was discovered during the Great Crusades, when it was found it was just a bunch of absolute monarchs fighting for control of the population. All had the same goal to dominate the population and force them to work in huge underground mines. When the Dark Angels landed on the planet they united all the lords and forcibly brought them under Imperial rule. Once under Imperial rule the Dark Angels organized a peoples militia to defend the planet and installed a Terran Government to rule the world. When the Horus Heresy came about there was little corruption on the planet that wasn't crushed swiftly. So with the need to raise an army to help defend their precious empire the Planetary Lord raised a grand army called the 1st Coronan Royal Defense. The first campaign the Coronans were sent on was in the Segmentum Solar to a group of crowded hive worlds to try to slow down Horus's advance to Terra. Which was fine with them they were born, raised, and trained in the few but massive hives on Corona, so they were excellent at urban warfare. They were attacked by the death guard in an all out offense, the first hives were easily destroyed every brave Coronan killed to the man. But in Hive Hagfitch the Coronan general, James Montgomery, led his men in a brave last stand to buy as much time for the Imperial Fist legion to erect more defenses on Terra it's self. These brave men set up machine gun positions, booby traps, and deadly firing lanes. When the first Traitors entered the city they were met with a surprising peace and quiet. They organized along the sub-barbs of the hive and waited for Mortarion's order to storm the city. When it finally came the traitors swarmed down the streets in destructive glee, taking no caution due to the fact there had been no enemy contact in entering the city which was normally the hardest part. Half-way through the 2nd layer of streets a huge platoon of Coronans charged out into the flank of the enemy positions with bayonets and power weapons they met the enemy, whilst pre-prepared gun positions rained death on them. The initial attacked killed almost 250 death guard marines with minimal losses. This was a major blow to the enemy and Montarion responded with pure rage and commenced a whole new tactical assault on the city going from building to building clearing out stubborn Coronan soldiers. In the final assault on the Hives center bastion its said that thousands upon thousands of Coronans layed down their lives to buy more time for the Emperor. In the final assault Mortarion led, the bastion was finally breached James's final transmission to Terra was *** We have held them off as long as we could when you receive this assume the worst we have been wiped out. Semper Fi*** Corona's first great general James Montgomery led his few remaining men out of the bastion walls in a charge to meet the enemy one last time. "Men of Corona this is it. Many have died and we will not make their sacrifice worth nothing! JOIN ME! CHARGE FOR THE EMPEROR! FOR CORONA! LONG LIVE THE IMPERIUM! CHARGE!" General James's pre-charge speech, in this charge a great many of our men were gunned down before they reached enemy lines but when they did reach enemy lines they tore into them like furious tigers taking at least a hundred space marines down in their final charge. With this is action The Death Guards ability to help in the assault on Terra was weakened and bought time for the Imperial Fists. This action got the Coronan regiment into the glorious annals of the Imperium as one of the best street fighters and bravest regiments in the Imperium. Thus the Coronan Grenadiers were born.

Here's some tips on photography:
1. Make sure you have your macro setting on on your camera - usually a little picture of a flower indicates this
2. Don't use flash on your camera
3. Shoot against a white background. A large piece of paper does the trick.
4. Light the picture well!

Check out my Youtube channel!

Looks like you are using a lot of browns. Washing the entire model with Devlan Mud will probably bring out details and add depth to the recessed areas. Devlan Mud and Badab Black are about my favorite things ever.

@ 40kFSU
You probably couldnt tell due to the pics but i am using a devlan mud wash over the whole mode. haha so good call there. thanks for the comment! I'm going to be trying new picture techniques so hope fully get okay shots.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Hey guys so i tried out some new camera techniques, put them in front of white paper and better lighting.. still not very good results.. maybe its just the camera i tried lots of times and those were the best, and those really are not very good either sorry. ill keep trying.. hope you enjoy (if you can see) haha

Heartens me to know i have a follower even with the horrible photo quality! Thank you for the inspiration!

Progress so far has been: I received in the mail on Monday too command squads and a heavy weapons squad! i have assembled the command squads 90% while all i have left is the arms because i will paint them then glue arms because i think it is easier that way. i will post pics of the WIP if you would like i think i might do a little fluff for the regiment too... By the way i recently have started Battle Fleet Gothic and plan on giving my regiment its own fleet so you will hopefully see pictures of that in the near future also! More to come soon!

WIP pics are always good. Painting the arms by themselves is a must. I learned that one the hard way the last time I made a Cadian army!

Looks good - I don't see many IG browns around my way. What do you use as a basecoat under the Devlan Mud - do you go for a Dheneb Stone foundation, or a Kommando Khaki, or something else?

@Catiline

I used Grave Yard earth as my base, then wash it with flesh wash. My armor is Bleached bone then a wash of Devlan mud! Thanks for the comment!

*Update*

Heres my work so far on my two command squads i got on ebay a week or so ago this is prob 4 hours of work id say im 3/4 maybe a little less done! Pictures:

Thats some melta and plasma gunners with out washes or left arms i find them easier to paint one arm at a time and on the left is the Company Commander also not done, (the belts and boots are scorched brown)

Poor picture but a picture none the less, so thats a pic of my counts as Al'Rahem and another gunner again not finished but getting there. (sorry for poor pictures im working on getting a new camera)

Al'Rahem and company commander and gunners another angle WIP

This guy front and center, has a small conversion to look like hes picked it up to his chest and aiming down the site! Im quite excited about him, ill be sure to show finished shot. WIP

And the Obligatory Pet Photo!! ON the left Jack on the right nikki! The best dogs in the world! Except when he attacked my leman russ mid game , me and my friends call him my personal warhound titan, so whenever im losing the joke is that im like screw this call in the Legio!!! (Maybe its one of those you had to be there moments)

I thought there would be a pic.. but when i went to link it Dakka took it off already.. sorry.. thats stinks! O well probably good thing when you look at big picture of people spamming dumb pictures.. Well theres your update ill post again when finished with these guys!

Good Hour or 2 of work tonight. Got the guns done and left arm glued on and started painting i would say one more hour and they will be done pics in a day or 2..

I need some ideas from you guys, i have one Heavy weapon squad laying around, and i want to be able to put all the options on it... so ideas i have right now are Mortars on a small base, missile launcher mounted on guardsmen arm.. and the AC, HB and LC. can just be switched out once stand is set up correct? so Really i just need to put gunner on a base and get models for the missile launcher... If you have comments or thoughts on those ideas please say or if you have a different idea! Also i want the bases to be made so like its a set up defensible position so like sand bags or boulders or like camouflage,m you get what i mean if not something like this: http://www.ailarian.com/folera/about/melchoir-showcase/index.html i thank Ailarose for those models, I want them to look like the heavy bolters, to see them scroll all the way down... (make sure to enjoy the other GREAT models while you scroll) So any ideas on what kind of material to make those barricades out of would be nice, also the one thing with The pic is those HBs dont use the stand, so make sure your ideas account the stand!

Thanks and Have a good night,
Cory

Im not really sure of the barricades but I can tell you the HB, LC, and AC are going to be tough to interchange. I tried it once with a magnet, thing is the rear portions of the guns aren't the same size. The gunner will be in place for one weapon, to far for the other, to close for the last. I guess you can try modifying the weapons.

well my idea was to put the gunner on own base so he can i can adjust him, i just have to raise the gun a bit.. but it should work.

Okay I am still alive... *UPDATE*

Sorry have had a lot of work in school and soccer, but i have still gotten painting done and a WFB battle in.

I got the command squads done and finished the bases on my army so they look a lot more uniform. I recommend that to anyone do your bases first and do them the same way, i would also recommend doing them before gluing on the men... (i didn't know this until now. o well lesson learned..). Anyway I dont know if i have mentioned this but I am an avid warhammer fantasy player as well as 40k. And am currently working on a mighty empire campaign with my own set of rules. So that might slow my 40k painting but I want to paint all of my 40k stuff before i buy more. That includes 20 more guards men 3 heavy weapon teams and a leman russ, roughly. So you will get updates of those and if you want of the campaign. I still really want to write some fluff for my regiment, i will do that eventually on here to! Now with our further ado the pictures!

Company commander with his plasma gunners

Al'Rahem and his melta Gunners

And the work space!

(sorry for terrible pictures, I'm still working on it)

I currently am painting 20 dark elf crossbows after they are done i either will work on IG Leman russ or Heavy weapon squad you decide! I also need some help in what kind of materials i could use for an urban base theme on my heavy weapon teams bases as i want them to be very dynamic. so any thoughts please comment!

The models look great from what I can see from them. Great job. The fluff was a good read, but somewhat impossible. A platoon of Guardsmen killing 250 Death Guard Chaos Space Marines? A platoon varies i sice from 25 men to only 55 men, not counting in heavy weapons squads, special weapons squads, conscripts etc. It's just a bit wierd , that's all.

But, I'm deffinatly subscribed.

Yeah, I've seen it. It could be possible, given the circumstances.

*update*

Okay After finishing 5 crossbow men for my Dark Elves, I switched back over to Imperial Guard painting!

On Wednesday went to my FLGS to get a game in, played a great guy. He played Tau, i won by a little my 30 man blob MVP for sure. But i noticed his tanks mainly hammerhead could just stay out of range and shoot at will and i could do nothing about it. So I bought some lascannons to try out.

Here they are one almost complete while the others bases are done. I want them to look cool, like weapon emplacements. I like them so far, but we will see how they turn out in the end. So these pictures are probably 4-5 hours of solid work. They take forever or is that just me!?

And last thing before pics. Ill be on spring break soon and need some books to read what Black Library books are must reads?

Now Heavy Weapon Squad I Lascannons

And here are the others mostly compete bases.

Please feel free to critique and/or comment! Thanks!
More later!

Thanks! I should get a group shot shouldn't I? haha i think that will come with the next update as well as some complete heavy weapon teams (crosses fingers for will to finish them, they take forever!) But if anyone is interested in my list http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/352917.page after heavy weapon squad I have 5 more crossbow men to paint, then off to my second leman russ! I have a cool camo idea i will share with you guys once i get a pic of my first russ up.

Thanks

P.S. I guess that was little update on what will be going on! thanks for anyone who comments/follows this thread this has been a good motivator to paint believe it or not, i know i take forever on my updates i will TRY to be more regular, but maybe one a week is a good goal what do you think?

Last thing I will continue working on picture quality i apologies sincerely for that.
