I've seen other, older, tutorials, using expensive stuff like combi-plasmas and combi-meltas as a starting point, or hand-made parts I do not have the skill to make.
I am cheap, and I figure a bolter and a hand/pistol flamer from the newish Blood Angels sprue would be enough to make a combi-flamer. I suck at converting, so I like following tutorials. My search-fu is weak, because I can't seem to find any using using these parts? Anybody have a link to one? Or an idea of how to combine a bolter and a BA hand flamer? Thanks!

I built two combination flames by cutting off the bolts grip, then remove the barrel(save it!).
Then cut off the hand and canister of the flamer, cut off the sight on top(this needs to be perfectly flush and flat or it'l lean), then cut the back of the gun until the front of it fits flush with the front of the bolter.
Glue this modified part to the bolter in the place where the grip.used to be.
Now saw the gas canister in half and glue it on the bland side of the bolter.
And lastly attach the bolter barrel and your done.

Yeah, I saw those. Maybe easy for you, but when I see metal piping and wires and whatnot, I see a more difficult conversion. I guess I just suck. And I know it may be nicer to start with an actual GW combi-plasma, but I don't have those, and they are harder to get and more expensive then a basic bolter and BA hand flamers.

-cut a bolter's clip and grip to be flat.
-cut a flamer's barrel off.
-glue flamer onto the flat bottom bit. It works in theory.
I did a combi-melta as follows:
-cut a meltagun's grip and wires off.
-cut a boltgun's sight off.
-glue together.

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

Sorry I meant that the top one should be easy to substitute a hand flamer for the full flamer used in the conversion. You really only need the flamer barrel and maybe the fuel canister if you want. I haven't even tried the second one.

I'm actually about to drop my jaw on this one. I actually had NO idea, that the combi-weapons were part of the WYSIWYG rule! :s @Duke-Haruhi - Nice combi-flamer in the link there

I actually had a huge problem finding cheap flamers. I searched ebay and a half dozen different bits sellers but couldn't find more than a couple in one place so I would have had to pay multiple shipping charges to get as many as I wanted. GW sells blister packs of 5 metal meltaguns on their website for $8 which is much cheaper than any other source I could find. I used the meltaguns and combi-flamers from my chaos rhino kits to make combi-meltas for the rhinos and flamers for my infantry. Two birds with one stone.
As for cost efficient combi-weapons, Chapterhouse Studios has a combi-weapon kit that is magnetized so it can be a combi-flamer, -melta, -plasma, or -grenade launcher (can also count as TL bolter if you want.) They are currently wrangling with GW over some legal issues and I don't really know how the DakkaDakka community feels about what they do, but for a cash strapped gamer getting 4 different combi-weapons in one for only $5 is fantastic.

Strange... I just tested it in 3 different browsers and they pop right up in all of them. Anybody else having that problem?
