One of my FLGS plays a battle mission called "Combat Patrol" but I can't seem to find it in the battle mission book. Is there a second book?
Or am I just looking in the wrong place?
Thanks.

It's in the 4th edition, but only in the big one, not the small one.

In the 5th edition books, both big and small, it's been completely written out of existence.

Combat Patrol is a GREAT way to play 40k. Its not too long, low points makes it really accessible, and its just a blast. After you play it a few times, let us know how you like it ^^

Combat Patrol was nicknamed by the GW team as "40k in 40 minutes" and was specifically designed to be played in your lunch hours. It was also designed as a starting point based off of the Battle For Macragg set, as that set only gave you one or two troop choices (unlike the near-full army you get in Assault on Black Reach now). You were suppose to start playing games at 100 point increments as you build your forces (starting at 200, then 300, and so on until 500, where you start going by 250 increments until you hit 2000 or so, with 1000 and 1500 being "milestones" for the army).

Right behind you. No, really.

I think killteams is better than combat patrol, pers'nally.

Well I have been playing it a few weeks now, I just didn't know the full rules, which apparently we haven't be playing by.
The only rule restrictions we've been using are as follows:
500 points
No named Characters
Only 1 troop choice
All annihilation
After losing 50% of models, begin taking ld tests on highest ld to stay in the fight
Everything else regulation.

I'm considering bring up the full rules now that I know, since units like captains, terminators and land raiders, (a club favorite,) are disallowed under the true rules, (obviously max armor value of 33, multi-wound models, and forbidden 2+ saves) and the whole time I find I had been playing by all the restrictions. Now I know I have been called a "Rule Nazi" a term I'm not fond of, but it seems like if told a specific set of rules to play by, and then having opponents not oblige those same rules, then something is a little foul.
Input?

I would say that temies and captains are not so bad, as it is usually a good idea to pack some plasma anyway. Landraiders are just unfair though.

The point of disallowing heavy armour is so that people don't have to worry about bringing AT to every game. With such a low point limit, if you take the melta needed to deal with AV13-14 all the lists tend to look the same; everyone needs to take AT just in case someone takes a landraider. It si a refreshing change of pace to know you are safe against some of the heavier units in the game.

I feel that combat patrol is not just meant to be "small 40k". It is meant to take out some of the unfairness you can get at such low points costs and let people try something different. Imagine if I took a vendetta w/vets and a demolisher. If someone had just took a partol of rhino marines and some scouts (you know, a patrol) they would be completely screwed. I don't think this kind of one sidedness would be fun for either of us (unless I was a douche).

What a coincidence, as one of my friends played a nearly identical build to that opposing my anti-personnel dark eldar patrol.
