When making a WoC is there any reason not to spam blocks of warriors?  [RSS] Share on facebook Share on Twitter Submit to Reddit

Every game they just shine and shine and then burn my eyes. THey are awesome. Starting to just dump my knights and convert my marauders to warriors.

In an all-comers list, a couple warrior blocks are great. They're not ZOMGIMBAHAX great, though, and are countered by a few things.

1) It's a godawful lot of points, so anything that can tarpit them has a chance to ruin their day. Some examples are pope wagons, stubborn khaleth dreadlords, skavenslaves, etc.

2) It's an unusually small model count, high-strength low-volume shooting is also problematic. Helblasters wipe out their armor save completely if they're the halberd version, organ guns likewise, and even pistoliers and outriders can be a problem. Every guy you lose hurts.

3) Powerful nuke spells, as above. Particularly true of lore of metal, but light can generate some high-strength pain.

4) Slow. Things that can get behind them are a problem, and some armies can avoid them completely.

5) No access to hatred, so things that affect their ability to hit REALLY hurt.

Take chaos warriors, but don't lean on them too heavily and take an all-core army. Marauders are ridiculously cheap for what they do, and get your body count up to a reasonable level. Knights got handled pretty severely this edition, so dropping them might not be as bad a choice.

The successful chaos lists I've seen usually had a tz-marked block of 15-18 guys with hand weapon and shield and a stubborn crown somewhere, which just makes them six different kinds of pain to kill, and then a flaming frenzied halberd version (either khorne marked, or nurgle-marked with the banner of rage) to kill a silly number of infantry per turn.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

Warriors are the backbone of a WoC army, but they need to be supported.

Marauders are good and cheap. they should be the ones going after enemy tarpits while the Warriors attack enemy elites.

because they are vulnerable to shooting you need to protect them. when there are marauders next to warriors the enemy will likely send his low str, high volume, shots at the marauders because they don't have a good save. againt bows you will have a 4+(3+ for shield)

MoT makes warriors more resiliant. not only a 5+ ward in CC, its also a 6+ against shooting.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

2-3 blocks of warriors are all you need. As said by others back them up with large blocks of marauders. I tend to throw a block of 7 knights in there as I want something that can move faster than my warriors and knights are still killers of the first order.

I agree with all statements. i just havent ran into units at my flgs that kill my warriors. i run shiels n halbers with nurgle. 3+ vs elf shooting and -1 hit makes them resilient Also t4 is great. I have 15 warriors not glued and was tempted to go extra hand weapon with khorne. Then converting my 20 marauders to tz warriors. as a tarpit having 3 warrior blocks for my 2k army. but many 2 units Killy anvil would better balance.

BLocks of saurus warriors with a light slaan making them either WS10, Init 10 or ASF with +1 attack, or both, do chew through warriors, even tzeentch ones, pretty quickly -and unless you have the stubborn crown in there the saurus should outnumber you in ranks. Especially if you have heavens castings Ice shard or the light spell that makes you -1 to hit - suddenly hitting on 5s, last, makes them go away (TM)

Most lists I have seen (and runnign a tournament means i've seen 50+ lists recently, with a good proportion of WoC) have some nasty tricks, but few overload too heavily on warriors. Most have 1 or 2 big blocks, and then marauders for cheap killy.
