I'm not sure if this is the right place, but...

When you have a squad inside a transport, and they fire from the port, how do you treat rules such as Assault and Rapid Fire? Do assault weapons get all their attacks? Can rapid fire shoot once at 24" and twice at 12" regardless of vehicle movement? The thought came to me when I was considering the benefits of shotguns with my Chimera-riding Melta-vets.

Thanks!

EDIT: Spelling errors...

p.66 in the Firing ports section, if the vehicle moves, then the squad counts as moving. Then just follow regular rules for shooting.

Both lasguns and shotguns are able to fire two shots at 12" range after moving. The only advantage to shotguns is being able to assault after shooting if the unit hasn't disembarked from a moving transport that turn.

He speaks the truth. (although I converted a squad of melta vets for shotguns myself, and have assaulted with them a good number of times)

he might have been debating between pistols and shotguns in a command squad. Always better to have one more attack before you go in then one you will be dead for.

here's a question - can models embarked in an open-topped transport fire if the vehicle moved at cruising speed? Does fast make a difference?

pg 66 of the big book under 'fire points' says that they can't but the 'open-topped' rule says the vehicle has no fire points.
Further confusing the matter, in the FAQ, models embarked in a transport count as deep-striking as well, but the vehicle counts as moving at 'cruising speed'. Can the embarked models fire after a deep-strike on an open-topped vehicle?

Sigh.

Why don't you look at some of the other threads on page 1 of this very sub-forum?

In summary.........you know what? I can't be bothered. If you can't at least do a minimum of research, then I can't be bothered to help.

Think I am too harsh? Well, I'm sorry to say that you are the ump'tenth poster doing this and I have had it.

Aww, be nice. It is only his second post, and the other thread is marked, "Shooting out of open topped transports."

Excalus - your only rules for firing out of vehicles FULL STOP are under the firing point rules. If you want to go down the "open topped have no firing points, therefore the firing point rules dont apply to me" route, then you have no permission to fire at all.

Not to mention them having no access points... so you can only board in reserves or turn 1, and only get out when the transport explodes and forces you out.
