So my FLGS is doing a BFG campaign next month and I don't really know what I'm doing. I've read the basic rules and decided on an imperial fleet. This is the first list I've put together:

75 fleet-admiral +1 re-roll
365 emperor battleship
230 vengance grand cruiser
180 gothic cruiser
180 gothic cruiser
180 lunar cruiser
185 tyrant cruiser
35 sword frigate
35 sword frigate
35 sword frigate

total 1500 points

Any suggestions/criticism/advice would be great thx

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

This isn't a horrible list by any means! The Emperor is a solid base for any fleet. I do have a couple of suggestions:

1. Your fleet lacks any Nova cannon, which may not be a big deal depending on your play style. Including one or 2 wouldn't be that difficult; the easiest way would be to swap a Dominator for the Tyrant. You could also look at taking a Mars BC istead of the Vengance as well.

2. To me, 3 swords just isn't enough escorts. I would consider dropping one of the Gothics and using the points to take more. These little guys are invaluable, especially when playing Eldar!

3. If you need to skim points, consider down-grading your admiral. The Emperor is the one ship you really want passing leadership checks (for Reload Ordnance), and she adds +1 to her leadership thanks to the sensor array on her prow.

I would personally (without doing the maths here...)
ditch the vengeance and take an overlord with the additional turret
ditch one gothic and replace with swords
ditch one gothic and replace with a 2nd lunar, pair the lunars
ditch the tyrant for a dominator
downgrade the admiral to basic cost

I dunno...the Overlord has always seemed a bit under-gunned to me, although having more 60cm guns around is never a bad thing. For my money, though, the Mars is a better pick.

Yeah, I thought so till I had a game against eldar and my Overlord sat back and murdered almost half his fleet.

Hee hee, I bet it did! Fighting the Eldar is about the best use for the Overlord I can think of.

In FAQ2010 the Overlord is 220 points and can take a targetting matrix for 15pts (like the Mars).
This makes it a reasonable choice, finally.

Before it was pure rubbish.

However, the Vengeance is pretty excellent. And works perfect along the Emperor. Better then the Overlord.

Also Mean green: he has the base fleet admiral.

Wow.. kinda surprised that people have posted here, anyway atm I'm thinking replace a gothic with a lunar, keeping the tyrant but giving it the extra range (which will mean I'll have to drop the re-roll). More swords sounds good but I don't really want to have to drop/downgrade anything to get them.

Paired Luna's are the greatest, they have a lovely synergy.

Oops, yeah...

The grand cruisers are just a turn off for me having no dorsal or prow weapons and therefore a huge blind spot dead ahead... no fun when closing...
