I've noticed that the few people who have Cleaved warbands give them Nurgle affiliations, but this is purely a tabletop thing, right? They are either undivided or have an unknown affiliation...is this correct?

I think that is the implied affliation, given the coloration in the codex and the fact that they have 'stuff' oozing out of their armor. I guess you could make them a Khorne-affiliated group, with blood oozing out, but the codex doesn't specifically identify it as such.

Shouldn't this be in general discussion/background?

I have an old WD and in the battle report it shows the cleaved with a nurgle icon, nurgle pic on their shoulder pads and the aspiring champion had the nurgle helm (so I think slaanesh).
Also if you could give a tut on how to paint them would be great.

Yes, I seem to remember that the Cleaved are a Nurgle warband. Remember that not all followers of Nurgle or even all Plaguemarines are from the Death Guard Legion

Actually, I guess this isn't the worst news in the world. I'm getting ready to paint up some actual CSM troops, and I really like the scheme of The Cleaved, but I already have Noise Marines in a Flawless Host Scheme. I think I'll just make one of the shoulder pads on all of my CSMs black and gold and just treat them as Black Legion mercenaries.
