Hi dakka.
For christmas I got a warhammer fantasy rulebook off a friend of mine who keeps trying to get me into fantasy. Well he managed to get me into it and after reading the rulebook and looking round the internet I'm at a bit of a dead end because i'm really not sure which army to play. so far i've narrowed it down to :

Orcs and goblins

Vampire counts

Tomb kings

or Warriors of chaos

I'm really struggling to decide so I decided to ask you guys what you think I should chose

Orcs and Goblins perhaps? New book and new models in March.

TK are too out of date to bother starting.

The tactis for the other options are quite different.

Orcs and Goblins are a horde army. Pricewise the most expensive of your options.

Vampire Counts are a magic/summoning/fear/unbreakable army. A little more finesse goes into the overall strategy to win.

Warrios of Chaos. Tactically straightforward: melee. Elite army so model count will be lower and therefore less expensive to buy.

Thanks aeretha, I'll probably cross wrriors of chaos of my list, i'm not keen on having a small elite army. And considering i'm a begginer I should probably cross TK of my list then.

That just leaves me with orcs or vampires

Orcs are the more straightforward army. The only major rule they have is animosity.

VC have a few special rules and a wider spread of tactics. With VC you are constantly summoning zombies so you'll need plenty extra, however your starting model count(those in the army list) will generally be lower than O&G.

I dont play Orcs but I think they would be the most beginner friendly out of the armies you listed. Also, as mentioned a new book is dropping in March plus some models.

Also its going to be the first army book released in 8th so thats....something?

Maybe something in the fluff could help you make a decision as well.

Orc all the way. Good for a beginner and fun to play imo.

I think if you've narrowed it down to between orcs and goblins and vampire counts. Pick the one you like the look of most and work from there. No point in going for an army you might lose heart in to continue later.

You want a horde style army with troop and tactical variety? Then you want Orcs and Goblins.

I play both o&g and vamp counts, theyre both equally awesome (plus vamps get zombie dragons!).
