Of course, as long as no abnormalities are formed:

i.e. [Mob A + Mob B = <30], only one or neither has a Nob/Champion, No otherwise impossible number of special weapons (one has 2 rokkit launchas and the other has 2 more rokkit launchas, etc.), both mobs all have the same armor save, (not mixing boys and ard boys etc).

Could a squad of 17 ork boys with a Nob, join up with a squad of 12 ork boys that did not a nob and does not have any special features/extras, and they be treated as one squad in game play?

My gut instinct says no. I know there's rules pertaining to ICs joining units, but nothing about outright units joining units. Me being at work and unable to get a PDF codex/rule book (damn you, DoD policy!) means I have little to back up what I'm saying.

Perhaps in 6th ed, I suppose.

Yes that is very similar to my own situation at the moment. Thanks though.

In-game (either during, after or before deployment) no.

The only squads that can merge are Imperial Guard Platoon Infantry Squads.

However, the two squads described could be used as a single squad if your army list was edited to reflect this.

Of course, you can join two Ork Mobs together!!

You just need to show us the rule that allows it.

In the Wasteland

in the last ork codex, there was the mob rule. It allowed to merga a fleeing ork boyz unit with another. Don't think you can in the current codex.

Of course, if you're playing Apocalypse you can just use the Green Tide datasheet, which from memory lets you have a single mob of up to a hundred Boyz...

Starts with 100 boyz, and just keeps on getting bigger There is no limit to that mob.

THat said it is the only method of merging boyz together. Standard dex doesn't allow it. However I suppose if you took squad a and squad b and mashed them together to make squad a larger, it'd work.

@Juvieus Kaine: Yes that is what I was meaning. If I had Squad A and Squad B that were both full and both entered into CC with an enemy unit and both won the combat, but took casualties, they now have 13 and 17 members each, could Squad B relinquish itself to the other/mash them together to make Squad A at full strength (30) again.

Thanks for everyone's input as well

No. Two units cannot join during the game, except for an Independent Character joining a unit (though there are restrictions on which units an IC can join).

In the OLD 3rd ed Ork 'dex a squad of boyz which was falling back could "mob up" to join an unbroken unit.

What Kaine meant was that BEFORE the game, during the army list creation step, you could just make it one bigger unit instead of two.

NO, NO, NO. No non-IC unit can join another non-IC unit ever, except for IG (and then only before game starts). Period.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Hive tyrants joining with hive guard.

Don't use absolutes; there is always an exception somewhere.

True, but Shieldwall dose say may join as if it were an IC. So its still using the IC rule here.
