They probably don't feel like doing a new print run of it.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Yup, once the current print run of a codex sells out, they have to decide whether to print more, or just let it sell out... In the case of Witch Hunters, it's a lesser-selling codex, which is due for revising in the foreseeable future, so there is little point running off another batch of it when they're just going to be stuck with most of those copies when the new one is released.

Yeah you can download it. They've stripped most of the fluff, though, to make it a smaller download, so if you're looking for background stuff you're better off picking one up from e-bay.

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

The download also cut some pages of rules out too. the DH codex has no FOC for example.

"Praise Be To The Omissiah!"

"Three things make the Empire great: Faith, Steel and Gunpowder!"

Azarath Metrion Zinthos

Expect my posts to have a bazillion edits. I miss out letters, words, sometimes even entire sentences in my points and posts.

They also stripped the allies rule, assuming that they were ever in that book. (If they weren't in there to start, apologies. I've never actually seen a copy of a codex that contained those rules).

Black Widow Assault Cadre 2000 Points (Under Renovation- Playable) Win-4 Lose-5 Draw-1
Storm Angels 1st Company 2500 Points (DA Codex) (Under Renovation - Playable) Win-3 Lose-4 Draw-3
Corsairs of Fate 1750 Points (Under Construction - Playable) Win-2 Lose-3 Draw-1
Protectorate of Menoth 11 Points (Project Delayed Indefinitely) Win-1 Lose-3 Draw-0
Imperial Guard Regiment (Unnamed) 1000 Points (Project Delayed Indefinitely)
Cygnar 25 Points (Planned) Win-0 Lose-0 Draw-0

Last Game(s): The Spearhead Annihilation Battle between my Storm Angels First Company (Dark Angels) and Skystompa's Waagghh! (Blood Angels) resulted in a MAJOR VICTORY!

The allies were in the DH and WH dexes originally.

As someone who loved taking his Inquisitor Lords and retinues with Guard, this makes me quite unhappy.

Oh well.

No painting section either.

I hate to be TFG, but my theory is that the painting/modeling sections were removed because the conversions in the DH/WH books actually involved proper bitz boxing and kit bashing, which is a big now.

I don't buy that a few more pages in the PDF would have been anything more than a blip on the GW monthly bandwidth bill.

If it can't be done by a 10 year old with a videogame-eroded attention span, it doens't belong in The Hobby (TM) (C) anymore.

Like I said, I'm turning into TFG.

I had no idea they discouraged proper kit bashing now. I guess it makes sense though, more moolah for them. I think I'm going to go read some really old white dwarfs to cheer myself up.

The new DE codex encourages kitbashing to get alternative DE Archons. Not so much discouraging, they just dont want to waste ink/bandwidth on something that isnt a pseudo-catalogue.

This was different from other ranges, their specialist games they seem so eager to forget. Mentions also of using guitar wire and metal tubing instead of shaving power cables off of existing GW products.

Still valid if you have the printed version, that was the clarification from GW when asked about this several times.

Also, as found on the web archive of GW's website, back then they had a service for ordering individual bits of any kit, making conversions (and their guides) a breeze. As this does not exist anymore, most old conversion guides are obsolete. Also, the who using wire & tubing, not GW supplies thing.

ah the glorious days of Black Gobbo, where the web teams actually encouraged and had several articles on how to make alternatives to some of the GW terrain and conversion pieces.

Whoever is the head of the "no conversion advertisment" inititative is going to get a swift kick to the nuts when i meet them.

I'll get off my in a second, but I think you're wrong.

A for-instance, look at the Ork codex, the one place I would absolutely expect to see weird and awesome things. Their suggestion? "For a REALLY WILD conversion, try putting the head of a biker on a Loota body!" (Seriously, page 88, just head swaps and adding guns.)

I don't see how you can look at the sort of stuff that used to go into Codex modeling sections (The deodorant Land Speeder? I'm not saying we should go back to that, but it's simply inconceivable that something like that happened once-upon-a-once-upon) and the stuff that goes in now and say there hasn't been a decrease in the modeling skill expected of players and it is no coincidence that this decline has come along at a time when GW's strategy has become more based on churning younger players through the hobby (and who cares if they still play in 18 months, as long as we can book the sales this quarter) and less on supporting older people with multi-year commitments to the hobby.

And I think that's a damn shame.

Not showing off as many converted models does not equate to discouraging conversions.

To be honest, I think at least some of it is simply a side-effect of the change in the models. Back in the day when the vehicle range was all spotty and most models were single-piece sculpts, conversions were a nice way of making the range look more attractive. These days, that's not as important... the models (mostly) sell themselves, without needing to be dressed up to look better.

So we see more stock standard models, and fewer conversions. Not because GW want to discourage people from converting, but simply because they want to show off the actual models they sell.

Besides, the models themselves are actually good, unlike before.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

My FLGS actually still carries both the WH codex and the DH codex on the shelf with all the rest of the current ones. I've been thinking of buying them both for posterity, and possibly selling/trading the WH online as I already have had my copy of it for years.

There is a fine line between genius and insanity and I colored it in with crayon.
