Have a team tourney coming up and I have been paired up with a blood angels player who is going all out jump pack wearing/assault-type troops.
I off-handedly said.....no problem, you bring the punch, I'll bring the pie!
But as I got home I started thinking....what exactly to bring, to throw as much dakka as I can downrange? I have about anything i could need to field for an
IG army, and my only limit is 1000 points (and a standard
FOC of course).
But I usually play much larger battles and I kinda got stuck trying to figure out what to field in so small of a force. I normally run melta vets in valks,
plas vets in vendettas, with tanks in support, a couple command squads in chimeras, with extra chimeras to help build my corner castle, and have flirted a time or two with manticores and even scratchbuilt a 3 hydras and have access to any other
IG artillery pieces. But in smaller games I have a problem with editting out what I need to drop, in order to get the best gunline type of force to compliment a
BA player going all out assault.
I should also mention the enemy players we will be going up against. I know for sure there will be a team with 2 orc players on it, and the other players that usually show include one who onnly plays chaos and chaos demon armies, at least one tyranid player, an eldar player, a tau player, several
SM players...one who is space wolves, one who is salamanders, and a couple who play vanilla/ultramarines, and possibly a dark eldar player or even 2, depending on if he gets his minis assembled in time.

My thinking is that the
CCS and manticore will stay back and fire, along with the chimera mounted Vets. While the Valk/Vendetta will fly around and fire up the units the Blood Angels are attacking to soften them up a bit before dropping off the flamer vets to clear and hold an objective and the melta vets will get dropped to pop a hard armor target or take and hold another objective. The 3rd Vet squad will then rush out to assist where needed or also to run out and take and hold a third objective, but as long as they are not needed they will be held back with the
CCS and Manitcore in a ready reserve "reaction" type position, firing out of the Chimera until needed up front.
