I started this project slowly in 2011. The idea to build an Astral Claws army actually came last spring when I read the Badab War book with my friend (a.k.a. Panzerranger on this forum). We both thought that the Badab War campaign was intriguing and decided to start an army each. I also didn't own a Space Marine army and felt I wanted one! What really got me caught was the nice Forgeworld stuff that allowed me to build a fairly distinct looking space marine army so when they were released I ordered a bunch of shoulder pads and got started around august/september last year.

With this army I wanted to make sure to give my self as big of a chance as possible to actually complete the project. Therefore, I decided for two rules.
1) Not to pick a too ambitious paint scheme. At least not for the basic troops and vehicles.
2) Not to buy any more stuff before I have completed what is in progress.

I also have an Imperial Guard army from before and with the Tyrant's Legion list in the FW book I saw the opportunity to use my Imperial Guards together with the Astral Claws. Thus, I decided to start out with a force that would fit both as a CSM list and as Tyrant's Legion.

Now when I have seen that it's actually progressing quite fine I decided to start this blog to hopefully give me some extra inspiration and ideas about how to continue the project and get your input on what I've done so far. Here is my army as of now:

The army right now:
1 Terminator Librarian
5 Assault Terminators
20 Tactical Marines
2 Razorbacks
1 Landraider Crusader

My librarian who currently leads the army!

Some close-ups on my tactical squads

And finally my Assault Terminators and their land raider

In progress now is a Venerable Dreadnought and after that it will be 11 bikes (including a captain on bike)...

It appears my uploaded images were a bit small in resolution. I don't know why but they appear bigger in my gallery (I just linked them here). I will fix bigger versions of them later.

I just finished this Venerable Dreadnought. Was fairly quick model for me to finish. I decided to go for a blue+gold color scheme on it. If I make a standard dreadnought in the future I will do it more silver like the normal troops. But hopefully, this one will stand out a bit more. I'm planning to get him a dreadnought drop-pod in the future but my next task is 10 bikes + 1 Captain on bike. I will get back with pictures on that once I start working on them!

Looking really good. The whole don't buy anything till you finish what you have really works, i'm using that on my wolves for buying and painting. I love the fact that there aren't any 'conversions' but the paint scheme and the shoulder pads make them stand out enough. From all the stuff i have seen i really want to start a badab war army, i just don't know which one

Keep up the good work

Wow great Astral Claws, am starting up my own. Do you use the new paints for your color scheme because I might want to borrow it.

We are winged salvation, but we are a terrible, final salvation, and our wings embrace the horizon with fire. We are the Blood Angels. To confront us is to die, and death is my remit, my reality, my unbounded domain. I have known death, and defeated it, claimed it as my own. To my cost, to my strength, death is my one gift to bestow, and I am nothing if not generous.

No he uses the old paints and Vallejo paints. And I think he uses some oilbased colours on the LR, but not sure. He use to use oilbased on his Leman Russes

Hello! Yes, I use the old Citadel paints and then I use a oil-based wash for the metal areas. If you are interested in my exact paint scheme I can post it.

@BrotherGnaeus: Fun to hear there are other Astral Claws armies being built! Would be fun to see your army!

@DijnsK: I'll take a new photo of the book when I get back home (which is unfortunately not until next week). Happy to hear you like him!

I haven't done much progress last weeks but I have started to assemble 10 bikes, 1 captain on bike and 2 attack bikes but I have a lot of work left before those are completed!

Very good looking army.

I didn't know that my SM army colors are pretty much the same as Astral Claws...coincidence? I don't think so!

It's been a long time since last update but work has now been resumed on "Badab Primaris"! I have now just primed and airbrushed 13 bikes (1 captain, 2 sergeants, 4 special weapons, 2 attack bikes and 4 regular bikes). They are all magnetized to offer me some different special weapons and weapons on the sergeant and captain.

I painted some base colors on one of the bikes to see if the color scheme works. What do you think? Too much gold? I'm of course going to paint some different colors on the exhaust, engine etc..

Yes i think it does. My only sugestion when you come to finish them properly is to make sure the armour and the engine block/exhuasts are different enough in the colour so that it is obvious they are not the same thing

Thanks for your comments Young Logan. I was thinking about going for a darker metal for the engine/exhausts. Then perhaps find a suitable decal for the front and maybe go for a brown seat.
