Alright, being new to the game and sporting a Guardsman Army, I realise already drop pod loaded forces can pose a serious danger to my tanks in the rear, like my Basilisk artillery support and my Hydra Flak Tank, as well as Lemun Russes, should they be a easy target. Now, I do have some rear guard forces in the form of a Blob and I don't intent to keep them on one place all game, but any good counters or methods to weaken a Salamander army with four pods and a Raider would be nice. I'm thrilled with the idea of two pissed of Dreadnaughts dropping on my exposed ass. I know a Astropath or a Officer of the Fleet might help....but what else?

Well, you can always get an Inquisitor with Mystics if you wanna be cheesy (Daemonhunter codex IIRC). they allow you to fire on units that deep strike on you.

Winning the roll-off to go first and forcing your opponent to go first, then reserving everything, is crucial against a drop pod army. Try using astropath and officer of the fleet as well.

Yeah, I don't want to do anything cheesy or dirty like that. I want it to still be fair and all--Drop Pods DO have some flaws and such. I will, no doubt, be bubble wrapping my tanks so they can just land right next to them and CC them to death. But I'll see if I can't get a Astropath or a Officer of the Fleet. Thanks for the ideas. Anyone else want to throw in your two cents or experience with DP heavy foes?

I've been wondering about that... Is that to prevent getting a Drop Pod of Sternguards in your face?

There's nothing cheesy about using an inquisitor. It is a part of the game, totally legal and a good way to both mix things up and counter deep strikers.

But anyway, you can also reserve up as others have said. Or you can use blob squads to build a no-drop zone around your tanks.

Even if you go second, still reserve and you'll be fine. If your opponent is all pods this will really work well, if he is mixed pods/shooting, then it will be harder to pull off as he can shoot you up as you come in in pieces.

But honestly, there is nothing what-so-ever cheesy about using an Inquisitor. Use an assassin, too. Then it's really fun!

Don't move forward and expose your rear. Outshoot them. They're in drop pods: They will come to you, and they will be out in the open.

Stay in a defensive stance, don't let your big guns get infront of your transports, and keel thems.

From without, the Imperium is assailed by alien monsters from the depths of space, nightmare death-machines and soulless daemons (as well as soulless death-machines and nightmare daemons, and the occasional soulless daemon in a nightmare death machine).

One hint, if it's a KP game, those Pods are easy prey for 4 quick KPs.

I played DE against an army like this, and did the little reserve trick, then zoomed away.

I would highly suggest reserving, as the only ranged support seems to be a LR, his pods will be useless.

Other than the Landraider, I have to worry about he's pretty good, a pair of Dreadnaughts, and three Land Speeders, so it's a mixed list. Got four Pods. The reserve idea wasn't something I was thinking of. But I will build a wall around my long range artillery arm, as best I can. Thanks for the help!

Not cheesy or illegal til April!

On topic, reserving out and utilizing an Astropath/Officer of the fleet is the best tactic.
