I notice a lot of people gripe about 40k. Even I gripe about 40k some times (Mostly the prices, and the elitest "I'm better then you people I have met)

I want to know why do we the people of dakka, play 40k?

I Honestly do love the fluff, I like the art, I enjoy the actual game. I just love 40k all around really.

If I did not love it so much, I would never bitch about it i suppose.

I love it because the story arc is epic and tragic and historic. It's a re-telling (that is to say, a blatant rip-off) of pretty much every theme in the history of English literature.

Also because it's a common medium of exchange for all Wargamers, I hate to parrot GW's marketing BS, but in most places it really is The Hobby. I can go anywhere, and find a battle (as long as I lug a few dozen pounds of super-fragile, super-expensive plastic with me...)

And, you know, because the Imperial Guard has big tanks, lawlz.

I have liked playing with miniatures since I was 6 (and they were made of lead... I have the brain damage to prove it!). I like 40k because it is something I would have only dreamed of as a kid back when the only rules we had were ones we made up and the only background was whatever our little kid minds could mash together out of reading the Hobbit and origional D&D books and orcs-with-guns wasn't even a possibility.

I like it because it makes me feel like a kid I guess.

Retroactively applied infallability is its own reward. I wish I knew this years ago.

I'm both chaotic and orderly. I value my own principles, and am willing to go to extreme lengths to enforce them, often trampling on the very same principles in the process. At best, I'm heroic and principled; at worst, I'm hypocritical and disorderly.

I love making new army builds! the tactics and strategies involved. the story and art all of it.

I just love everything about this game.

Prices don't bother me toooo much mainly because I buy most of my stuff used and only upgrade it here and there with a few store bought models.
That and I don't care much about money I will spend it on anything that gives me joy ;]

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

I needed something to fill the time that used to be occupied by WoW, and also something that would let me socialize with other nerds. Plus, now I can claim to be a "painter" and that I've done many dozens of works in the past year!

It gives me something to think about

when I'm bored at school or can't get to sleep I make up some epic fluff about my army

also, every tuesday night a friend of mine comes over and we both paint and talk. Really relaxing ^^

also, since I have been a kid I've always loved epic HQ's, and warhammer gives me the chance to create and play with these HQ's

I only complain about prices because it drives me to find alternative suppliers rather than just head to GW to pick stuff up. I actually pay very little for my models (something along the lines of 50% of the actual price).

Well, I enjoy the game when I play, which is probably less often than I should.

Realistically, if nothing else, it gives me something to do with the Orks I paint.

Between Alpha and Omega, and a little to the left

It tickles my tactical bone where RPGs and RTS often end up in rushes or grind fests.

Want to help support my plastic addiction? I sell stories about humans fighting to survive in a space age frontier.

It tests me, and I love to be with my friends. Gives us an excuse to make gun noises and make up stories. Immaturity FTW?

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

I like to paint the miniatures allot, and I also like playing the game allot. The tactics are much more complex than most RTS games, which usually forgo strategy for base building and turtleing.

I like the fluff, and before my collection was destroyed I had a great deal of the older (and more informative) codexes to pore over!
I like converting & painting.. but I can't say i'm ace at either one!
