I was thinking of running a renegade blood angel army, but i'm not sure on the colors, any ideas ? i want them to look like a chapter freshly turned renegade so less of the spiky armor of a typical CSM and possibly even still waring their Aquila although i most likely be mixing the CSM and SM tactical squad box sets to represent them being cut off from the imperium and having to for lack of a better word loot the fallen for armor replenishments also i will be running them with the new blood angel codex.

this is the best i could come up with using the B&C spacemarine painter

Thats cool.
As you mentioned, seeing as they are cut off, lots of wear and tear. So whatever colour scheme you go for, maybe introduce the odd bare metal part as if its a work in progress.
A looted plate of armour.. that they havent had time to re-paint
Maybe even sticking to the original colour scheme... and eroding symbols, and heavy scratches/marks will be enough?

I like your idea though. A nice twist. Always good if you can put your own stamp on things.

I'm working on a 2000pt renegade patrol army, that is based on more khaki/green 'army' colours (1940's) - where they have been corrupted by a Terminator Lord, and now follow his lead. Just purely for his entertainment and ego... No big symbols of Khorne etc, but subtle undertones of Chaos... and the main feature being 6 hounds of Xaphen, with Ogryn handler.

...I have nothing to say

I like this idea, there are very few examples of subtle chaos tainted guards, and i like the color choices.

I think the purity seals would look good with some really sickly green or black wax. You could dirty up the paper over red scripture. I really love the concept though. Will you make much use of mutation or is it still more renegade that chaotic?

This actually is a pretty bad-ass idea.

"My anger is my own." would be an awesome line to be placed on a Death Company Dread.

I like that idea , that would be great seeing "My anger is my own." on the dread , very fitting. I'm thinking about painting both my sanguinary guard and death company white in stead of gold and black respectively. The idea of a death company Sergeant with streaks of dark colored blood on his white armor, i can't wait to start painting them .

If your fielding sanguinary guards and a chapter bearer id totally scrawl "He / Sanguinius died for your sins" on the banner to honour the age old meme . To draw out the backstory of this renegade force Id toy with the idea that Azkaellon himself went renegade, after 10,000 years of unceasing war finally destroys his moral.
Still loyal to the Sangiunius and the Emperor but since hes from the Horus heresy days he doesnt view the Emperor as a god instead as the honourable father of the primarchs / leader of mankind. Now he bands together what blood angel renegades he can in a similar fashion to Cypher and the dark angels "fallen", with an emphasis on sanguinary guards and death company offering a degree of control over the flaw enough to stay lucid enough to distinguish friend from foe but blood crazed enough to feel next to no pain and have all the strength augments.
Maybe he's planning a crusade to the eye of terror / warpspace to destroy the black legion to avenge the Emperor / Sanguinius. OR maybe he has some elaborate scheme to reincarnate Sanguinius by finding his soul drifting through warpspace potentially with some help from the Sanguinor *wink wink*
Id also name all my vehicle transport angsty names like "Silence of Infinity", "Hubris of man" and "Deathtouch of the angel" or a squad banner saying "Imago dei / Sanguine" (Latin for image of god).

Wow that is awesome. I was thinking of something similar and i love the idea that they would be building a crusade to the eye of terror.
I painted a mock-up with some bitz i have sitting around, C&C welcome. He's done to table top quality, i still have some subtle battle damage to paint on his armor and pauldrons. What do you think?

What type of renegade are you going for, death to the emperor death to the chaos legions or death to chaos using means the imperium wouldnt approve of but ultimately for the good of the imperium or somehow they get deluded into worshipping chaos I could help you come up with some background on either. In the meantime Ill work on some color schemes.

here are two schemed I thought would go well with some DC the alternating black and red to symbolise the twin gifts of the black rage and red thirst, and the white to symbolise there ascension / control over the flaw.

They are more of a death to chaos using means the imperium wouldnt approve, style of army.
I like your version:

My only thing is i don't like the face area being a different color

i didn't see your other design though.

I have other color schemes, for example:

this is a variant of the one you made.

the gold armor to show them as equals to the sanguinary guard. the black arms showing there ties to the black rage.

and this one i like but it looks to much like it comes from the grey knights.

then you have this one my other concept renegade blood angel mock up. C&C please

I made the face guard bleached white to make it look like a face / skull kinda like a chaplain. To make it seem like there still human even whilst in the uttermost throes of the black rage / red thirst.
With the color schemes just roll with whatever you think looks cool, Im on of those people that have to have a uniformed look so no half half color schemes, or greaves a different color to chestplate. With that being said im yet to actually paint a mini or play a game of 40k or fantasy (curse you economic climate !!!) I own a bunch of codex's and the dawn of war games and thats about it for me. Oh yeah and the last color scheme you provided looks kinda like the knights of blood ? i think there called so you might not want to use that to avoid confusion.

Moving onto backstory I thought maybe you could toy with the idea that since theyre essentially under the grips of the black rage and should by all means not be able distinguish themselves from Sanguinius there essentially incorruptible right ? or at least have far higher corruption resistance then a normal marine. So whichever fluff leader you use as there leader (rooting for Azkaellon / Sanguinor) actively encourages the use of daemon weaponry and massive psyker overkill (you know how it says they cant draw on too much power for fear of drawing the eyes of chaos) now they just go overkill and draw on everything they physically can. Right now they lack the manpower needed to fight the black legion head to head so collecting powerful relics and chaos weapons from across the galaxy to arm them for there final combat, oh and maybe you could come up with them having a recruiting world ? perhaps a world which has been ravaged by imperial tyranny and chaos brutality and was torn in between the two, facing death at the hands of exterminatus or mass slaughter regardless of who won until the renegade blood angels made planetfall and cleansed it making it there new base of operations, spreading the word of the emperor not being a god but how chaos is still the ultimate enemy of man and how they shall be delivered through Sanguinius and the non god Emperor. All recruits would need to show a high tolerance to chaos influence, psychic potential would be a big plus, a innate incorruptible sense of justice free from the bias of bureaucracy and religion (go all Andrew Ryan bioshock all over em) and most importantly a love for humanity.

Id recommend you use the swords from the chaos daemons bloodthirsters sprue, or if money isnt an issue grab the nurgle daemon prince for its awesome sword and loads of terminator lord kits (the hq choice that can double up as a sorceror) and mix and match bitz with regular terminators and sanguinary guards. If you could somehow attach two of those bloodthirster swords to one space marine possibly a squad commander of some sort, paint one red and one black and you could try scrawling "Temptation" on one and "Redemption" on the other thatd be sweet.
Also some hooded heads from the dark angels kits and cypher would be a big plus, really fit the stoic nature of the renegade blood angels. These would also be a nice addition to death company models http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440213a&prodId=prod1860240 .
When it comes to painting the death company Id recommend the ropes and tassels are painted in white to show there "purity" thatd look pretty sweet and incorporate some gold into them somehow as well maybe as a lining colour for the pauldrons ?.

Lastly I tried to come up with a few ideas for things you could scrawl on banners / vehicles to give your army that extra kick of pizzazz, So here's a list of phrases and sayings you could use.
"My wrath shall be your redemption"
"Your blood shall be my salvation" (possibly side by side or on one banner)
"Shield of the Virtuous"
"Bane of sanctimony"
"cruor pro cruor" (blood for blood in latin)
"My blood has run dry as have my tears, what more can I give to show my dedication" (dreadnought banner perhaps ?)
"The blind are leading the stupid"
"Innocence lost can never be reclaimed"
"Infinite Grandeur"
"You are not worthy"

I racked my brain to come up with these but if you need any other tweaks feel free to PM me if / when I start playing / painting 40k (Emperor and finance allowing) im sure I can use some of these ideas as my first army would ideally be a slightly unorthodox blood angels force. Oh yeah and if your using a dreadnought of any kind for the hilarity you could write "sticks and stones may break my bones..." that would be AWESOME for a renegade dread.

Again, looking good. We seem very alike in painting (the shading and such), sorry I don't have any pictures on hand to post for comparison. Maybe you could mix in some blood angel-ey bitz like those shoulders that come from the death company sprues. Just throwing one of those in here and there can give a lot of character to an army. Maybe you should pick out the skulls and stuff in white or a metallic so they pop. I like the subtle shift in tones of black between the plating and the trim. Maybe make the eyes a little brighter, but they look fine otherwise I think. Any ideas for a chapter insignia or squad markings?

chapter marking? no idea, a friend of mine and i were knocking around the idea of no chapter insignia or of a simple one ( A blood droplet on each pauldron ). As for squad marking i was going to follow in the chapters non codex marking ( a different helmet color for tactical , assault, devastator and veteran) As for putting some blood angel bit mixed in i want to but currently i'm working with bitz i have on hand when i get them i will mix some in...trust me

OK so i just received my blood angels and on Monday i will start painting them . The first models i will paint i think will be some of my tactical squad, the squad marking for the different unit types (tactical, assault, devastator) will be per codex but on the icon on their pauldron (I.E. a red blood drop for tactical, a yellow one for assault and blue for devastator) there chapter badge will by a simple blood drop painted like a red jewel ; both chapter badge and squad marking icon will be sculpted as allowable (i'm kit bashing with some other blood angel kits). here's an updated image of the color scheme

This got me to thinking about my death company and sanguinary guard. I was going to do the death company in white, and the sanguinary guard in gold but now i think i'll do the death company in black ( traditional) and the sanguinary guard in silver (ala grey knights). questions, C&C welcomed.
