Hello All,

I have 2 extra set of BR Orks and I would like to build a second army for my friends to use when they come over. I am pretty new to the game and we are doing our best to learn the all the advanced rules as we go. Right now I have a 1500-2k Space marine army and I want the Orks to be able to at least compete.

Right now the Orks list looks like this:

Warboss
- Power Claw
Total - 70 pts

Ork Boyz x20
- Big Shoota x 2
-Total - 130pts

Ork Boyz x20
- Big Shoota x2
-Total - 130pts

Nobz x 10
-Total - 200pts

Deffkoptas x 6
- TL Rokkit Launcha
- Total - 270pts

TOTAL POINTS - 800pts

So what I am asking is how can I make the AoBR Orks set competitive without breaking the bank. I do have the Ork Codex and am willing to buy a few sets, Scrounge Ebay and buy bits.
Thanks Guys

How many points did you want to play? And how much do you want to spend?

If for 1k points, I would suggest getting a big mek w/kff, pk nobz for your boyz units, and a painboy for your nobz unit.

That should be relatively cheap especially if you ebay them. Under $50.

If you wanted to be competitive at 1500, you will need to spend at least 100 dollars. The cheapest way would be just to buy AoBR from ebay. You can get 18 and 2 big shoota boyz for under 20 dollars. Get a few of those and nobz with pks for your boyz squads.

Your budget and points you want to play at would help greatly.

The Ork army I am trying to put together is for my friends/family to use if they don't have/bring an army of their own. My Main SM army can field at least 1500pts so I would eventually like to get my Orks up to the 1500 mark.

I don't mind spending an extra $100 but I would like to avoid buying any more AoBR as I already have two sets and I would like the models to looks a little more diverse.

I do not know alot about the Orks, but as I stated I did buy the codex so I can begin this process. My main goal is to make sure that my friends (or myself I guess) can have a good time playing this army and not be completely out-matched.

I intentionally left the list very vanilla. I have no real plan yet and would love to hear anything you guys want to share. I really appreciate the stuff that has already been posted as it gives me some direction to start looking.

So thanks again guys!

It gets expensive real quick if you don't want to use AoBR boyz.

There are two competitive themes for Orks.

The first is mechanized. That list generally takes 3+ Battle Wagons loaded with Burnas, Shoota Boyz, and Nobz. You take 1x big Mekk to make your BW twice as survivable.

The second is mass footslogging. You screen your boyz with mutipliers (either Kans or Grots) and march them across the field with the support of deffcopters. If you want to spend the extra cash, then lootas as well.

For the first list, you would need 4x boxes of Lootas/Burnas, 3-4 Battle Wagons, at least 4 boxes of boyz, a box of nobz, and a KFF big mek. Probably more money then you are willing to spend.

For the second list, you would need 3x boxes of killa kans OR 6 boxes of gretchin (about the same price). Then more boyz (AoBR ones works well here) and a big mek or two.

The second option saves you about 200-300 dollars IF and only IF you take advantage of how cheap AoBR boyz are.

Both lists are fairly competitive. The second one, if you scourge ebay, should cost you no more then 150 dollars to up your ork forces to 1500. If you don't want to use AoBR boyz, it will cost you a little over 200. The second will cost you more then 400 dollars.

(Deff Copters can be replaced with Lootas if you want to spend extra money. But since you have the models for deffcopters already, might as well use them. Another option would be to use a cheap unit of nobz.)

I am going to have to go with Ebay for the AoBR boys. My desire for diversity is much less than my need for value.

Can you have a can wall army with only 6 cans? Is it a viable way to get more boyz in the list?

Another plug here for buying AOBR Slugga Boyz: The bits are exactly the same as in the multi-part boxes. So, for the price of a multi-part box of 10 Boyz, you can get 2 sets of 20 Boyz from AOBR, with less assembly time as well. The models also look exactly the same.

So, if you do buy multi-part Boyz boxes in the future, assemble them as Shootas.

Here's an way to "flesh out" your army to 1000 points:

Add 9 boyz to each unit. Convert big shootas into rokkit launchas.

Add 1 buzzsaw to the Deffcoptas. (wound allocation, not a bad upgrade either)

Put big choppa/'eavy armor (wound allocation)

Minimum investment, maximum return. It isn't all that shabby either.

Try an ebay store called "Discount Warhammer and 40k". Bid on the 40 boys set. You can usually get 40 boys exactly what's in the box just no box for 50-60$. If you are in the US you get free shipping.

Thanks for all the comments/Suggestions guys. You have given my Ork army a bit of direction. I am going to keep my eye on Ebay and will slowly try to flesh out a Kan wall with them. Because they are not my main army I am not in any hurry to rush out and buy all the stuff, but its nice to know that all those Orks I had left over from my BR set will not just collect dust.

Thanks again Guys, and if you have anything else to pitch in don't be shy, I will be sure to check back in.
