I was looking of the FW website and was thinking about picking up 2 Eldar Hornets.
Is anyone using the Hornet and what are your thoughts about the vehicle?
Thanks!

They are better than vypers, definitely. Example a hornet with 2 shuriken cannons is 65 points - 5 points more than a vyper, you get armour, close-topped, star engines, and I think scouts(?). The points difference becomes greater with better guns, but hey, hornet's are the best firepower FA choice for Eldar now. Perhaps as good as SM landspeeders, which is nice. If I used them I wouldn't go more expensive than missile launchers. Don't want to make an AV11 vehicle too expensive!

I am not going to buy any right now though, because I don't really want to use something in my army that isn't in the codex. If your regular opponents and friends are fine with forgeworld rules though, go for it, definitely!

Word of warning, the current rules are 'trial rules'. I have no idea how much forgeworld may change them when the new book is released in April. I imagine not too much, but they could be tweaked a little.

I run 3 with scatter lasers and no other upgrades. The work like fast War Walkers in essence, keep 'em on the flanks out of the way and concentrate your fire and you'll be fine. Saying that though I am running a mech eldar list, and am new to this mobility malarky!

I don't use them, but I think they could be pretty handy. Keep them in reserves, then outflank them, then you can hit vulnerable rear armour with EML's or scythe down infantry with Scatter Lasers.

I'm using pulsars on mine, but I haven't tried them just yet.

This seems like it would make the vehicle very expensive - 135 points or thereabouts? Seems a lot for AV11. I can see how that would be 4 outflanking S8 shots though. Pretty good capacity to strike hard.

That, and I super-glued them without thinking it through, so I can't change my mind.

Harsh, mate. I suppose you could try sawing through them or something, but better to try them out awhile like that. Hornets seem like (as with vypers and wave serpents) they would be a prime candidate for magnets.

Always plan a model ahead of time.

Magnets are your friend when it comes to Eldar vehicles. I found that EMLs under performed consistantly in games, with the low BS I have found that MLs are the best compromise giving plenty of decent stength hits. I would hesitate on pulsars as they make such a flimsy vehicle a real target rather than an annoyance, the same being true of SC or BLs.

Arrr, mind yer acronyms, cap'n!

I agree that scatter lasers or missile launchers would be the usual limit, anything more does make a juicy target. But if you plan to outflank, it might make sense to maximise the damage done in the first turn of shooting - and pulse lasers definitely qualify for that!

Sorry, typing while tired is a dangerous thing... I agree pulse lasers will give a good thump, but being BS3 halves the firepower of the vehicle.

Apart from AV14 monsters scatter lasers will do the job against side/rear armor. I just found that with EMLs it is frustrating when both shots miss, regularly.

You may have more effect the way you want it, but I find them to be glass hammers if you expect them to be more than an annoyance to your opponant

The model seems sound. The real trick is whether your opponent will allow you to use it in either 40K or Apoc.

Thoughts?

Well, in pick up games they are legal as they are in the FoC. However a lot of tourneys don't allow FW rules, but I don't bother with 'em so it doesn't affect me.

What you may face is the usuall screwing up of the face of TFG while it whines that the unit is broken right up to the point it gets blown off the back of the table... lol
